Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Maine will host Merrimack next weekend. NBCSN has the Paralympics on Saturday, so they will want BU/ND on Friday night. If the league goes with 2 games on Saturday, obviously Maine would play then. If 2 games on Friday, I'm guessing Maine gets that game and UMass/Vermont gets Saturday.

Should they win, they will go to #3 Providence. I believe any shot at getting an at large berth to the NCAA tournament is gone. Win the Hockey East tournament or else.

ETA: It has been announced that Maine will host Merrimack on Saturday at 7:00pm

I realize that HEA officials s**k, but that one was bad enough to make you think bias.

Providence was the better team this weekend. Their D was on its game. Maine just wasn't able to get much done. They looked slower than they usually do and Providence got the best of them. Maine legit lost. But...

The officiating was atrocious.

How can Hockey East take itself seriously when it assigns two officials from the city of Providence to work the last regular season series of the weekend in a game that Providence is playing?

I'm glad Gendron did what he did and I wonder how outspoken he'll dare to be.

Does anyone have any input on that high-sticking incident? I forget the Maine player who did it, but there was a high-stick and he didn't touch the puck and they still blew the whistle. Is that in the rules?

Providence was the better team this weekend, but the officiating was abhorrent.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

They finished where I thought they would finish, 6th. Sure did get my hopes up though and they got dashed. Team hasn't looked good for awhile and I think the loss to ND killed them mentally. They weren't the better team this weekend, they were beat to the puck consistently for 5 periods. PC went into the neutral zone trap in the 3rd tonight and that allowed Maine back in. Nothing you can do about lack of talent. I hope whoever is coming in for Dmen can actually play D as next years team won't be as good as this one with marty gone. They can beat MC but will they? I'm not that confident. Wherever they go on the road they get smoked.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Thanks Red Gendron, No, shame on you Red. 5 on 3 for a full 2 minutes. How the hell is your third leading scorer on the bench and not on the ice. The kid had 2 points in the game both assists. Shame on you for not fully assessing your players. Your job is to run a good practice, manage your bench, and manage your players. Please do your job and let your players do theirs.
PC kills it.

The only thing you should be shaming Red for is not benching Rutt. You're seriously blaming Red? Have another.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I think it was a great time for Gendron to call the time out on the 5 on 3. They just didn't get it done. It's amazing that they've had, what is it now, 5 goals now with the extra attacker and the goalie pulled? When I said it was embarrassing about the 5 on 3 I guess I should have specified that I wasn't really blaming Gendron for his selection of players on the ice. I'm glad he went after the officials after the game like he did right after the game.

Red didn't have a press conference tonight and apparently didn't say much about anything. Whitneigh Kinne will post what little there is tomorrow on YouTube. There really isn't much to say. He can't talk about the officiating and what is left to say about this team? Assuming they get past Merrimack on Saturday, they will have to play at Providence. Aside from their usual road woes this season, Maine has not won a game there since 2010.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Wow... And Jean Yves-Roy is prohibited from officiating at Maine? What's the difference there? I was at the game last night and didn't see the hold on O'Conner either, but I have to think it was one of those calls where you wonder why they called that and failed to call some other ones right in front of them. There was a trip that happened that took place right in front of an official where a Providence guy just got his stick caught up in a Maine player's skates and he fell. The Maine player obviously got tripped up, and it wasn't an embellishment, and yet that wasn't called. I know that it all comes down to discretion, but it's hard not to think there was a bias involved too. Maine didn't put the effort in that they needed to to win, but it's dejecting to think that the officials aren't calling it both ways consistently.

Roy called a Maine-SLU game in Canton this past October...

(Guess that's OK if Maine is on the road?)

I'll predict a Maine win over MC at home, then a close season-ender at PC. (Wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Friars in the FF this year.)

The Bears didn't get it done down the stretch, but I think that this team has over-achieved over the course of the year. I like the fact that Red is demanding, and that he's bringing in what appears to be a much better ilk of recruits.

Next year, and the following one, will tell the tale... If Maine gets good 'tending during that span, I fully expect them to be in the PW mix.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

On the one hand, PWR wise, beating PC in two weeks could wash these two losses.

On the other hand, if they cant beat them at home beating them down there seems rather hopeless

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I don't see it happening either, but I might make the trip just to witness how Maine competes in a true do-or-die game.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Maine moves down to 23 in PWR, Notre Dame moves up to 10th with a win at BC, PC at 11th, oh what could have been. They really blew it. its really that simple. Tough to watch thats for sure. I see very little chance that they can beat MC and then PC. Its possible but the mindset is going to have to change between now and then.

is Sully the starter now? Would the team play differently if front of him?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

PC certainly was the road warrior team this weekend and Maine inexplicably did not seem all that prepared for it or just couldn't handle the pressure. Disappointing to the say the least. At this point with Marty's confidence shot, I doubt they can handle what Merrimack will bring. The only slim hope is that they somehow find themselves, squeak by MC and take that same road warrior mentality to PC and engage them in an all out war of attrition. Certainly has been disappointing to see all that work go out the window.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

You have to wonder if Gillies comes to Maine if Red was coach, or Dumolin or etc

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I think the loss to ND killed them mentally.

The straw that broke the camel's back after an entire season of close games on the road, battle hard only to lose near the end. Got to be tough to stay up after that.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I feared they might not handle PC on night 2, and that's pretty much what happened. They just don't have the horsepower and size right now. Hopefully that gets corrected. I know most on here lamented the lack of quickness and speed on this team 4 or 5 years ago.... may have been corrected but I think they went overboard and forgot to recruit at least some size up front. Walsh always had a nice mix of speed and size in his forwards... hopefully the recruits on board and in the pipeline help fill those holes. And I won't even discuss the defense. I made a post yesterday then took it down after some thought. No need at this point to rip an individual.... lets just be patient and see what the staff brings in. By all accounts though it appears we will be sizing up in the future.

Gotta be a tough one on the Red. Sure he hoped for the fans sake he could turn the Timmy momentum around in one season and he almost pulled it off. It will take another season or two to get his guys in here and see what he can do. It was an interesting and tantalizing run, but all good things must come to past. So long as we don't become another UHN with their choking characteristics, I'll be fine. :)
