Exactly what "fact" are you disputing..? (Amherst is the main UMass campus, isn't it?)

The field has to be consistent, if you want this thing to work, IMO... Inserting UML over UMA when the wind is blowing in the former's direction is dirty pool.

Too many. I say 1-5, and Lowell.
I think two of 2, 3 and 4 play for the NC.

Really? You're ruling out Minny?

It's not a bad prediction strategy. That overall #1 seed, especially when it is a very wide gap to the next team, always seems to get upset at some point in the tournament. The track record for a team like that isn't great in the tournament since it expanded (and probably going back a few years into the previous 12-team tourney as well).

I don't think they'll fair well against an eastern team. Wilcox is the wild card.
Their best chance would be against BC... similar styles. They'll get the crap kicked out of them by the others, especially QU.
If Brown makes it in, they're my wild card. That team can HIT!!!
I don't subscribe to the Nick school of predictions, although that probably works equally as well as anything. ;)
Here's my thoughts: This weekend's games are why I don't think Minny will fair well against eastern teams.
Minny scored 3 goals and went 1-0-1 against the #40 PWR team, but a team that is defensive orientated.
Tournament caliber eastern schools can play exceptional defense AND light the lamp considerably well.
They have some very good goaltending, but not a lot of D played out west. JMO.

FWIW... #1-5 at the time of my prediction were Minny, BC, QU, Union and Ferris St.

Just lay it to rest...the Governors Cup most likely is not going to happen anytime in the future...more or less the statement was that UML was involved...and pretty much that is it,while your thoughts are that UMA would be a better fit...so be it. Maine will find ways to fill their slate of games over the next 2 years. Hockey East Expansion has cut out 7 games this year and that will drop to 5 next season with UConn coming aboard.

UML was in the original Gov's cup. Knowing that how is it dirty pool

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

The govenor's cup was a great tournament. But I wouldn't mind seeing Maine have the dexter classic resurrected. I remember it seemed like a way to get a top team in every season. Although I am not one hundred percent sure based on my memory... but I seem to remember seeing Michigan, Colorado College, etc... over the years in that tournament. Wouldn't it be great if we saw the following field for a dexter classic next season... Maine, Michigan, Yale, Penn State. Something like this would be cool. A two year back and forth two game set with Penn State would be cool too.

Also, I have attended the Florida tournament before. I would have to say it isn't that big of a disappointment. For me it was the kind of thing that was cool when it started, and you want to go at least once, but sort of not that exciting after many years of it.

I am more of a fan of seeing either power house teams at Alfond, or teams that are interesting in a "building the program" mode.

At the same time, I think for the fans of southern Maine and southern New Hampshire, the neutral games at Portland and Manchester are a great idea. I imagine both larger venues will sell out and potentially attract casual fans into becoming full time fans. In addition, Maine is on the road it seems to being "Maine" again and you can always count on consistent top level play from UNH. Seems like those will be OOC games that mean something.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Would have been nice to see Notre Dame not get swept this weekend. Just that much more chance that they'll play like they have something to prove next weekend. Since Maine really does have something to prove (the dreaded away record), here's hoping they play like it, too.

As for tournaments, I think the Florida tournament is partly what you make it, and partly depends on the field. I've seen some really good fields. There have been years when it was a real treat to see those 4 teams. There have also been a few blah years. If you get a blah field and subpar weather, yeah, it can easily seem like a big waste. Probably a safer bet to stick with a Portland tourney - or at least good NC games.

Just as long as Maine keeps making the trip out here to Indiana, I'll be happy. :D

The more I think about it, the more this weekend off came at a perfect time. Hopefully a material advantage for the Black Bears.
- give Marty a rest and some time to get his game back to December/early January status.
- get Swavely healthy and back in the lineup.
- watch and watch and watch again the film of ND's 2 losses in Durham Fri and Sat.
- I believe Red has worked with them mentally to not let the road record get in their heads.
Eight reg season games to go...N.D., Merrimack, Northeastern, Providence. I predict 4-4. I pray for 5-3 or better.
I think the Freshman line needs to kick it up a notch as Emeril says. They've been excellent but now it's crunch time. Also, overall, for what we lack in pure talent, you gotta believe that the club will be in as good or better conditioning than any opponent.

FYI, here's a link to the teams and scores in the Dexter Classic: http://www.augenblick.org/chha/t_mne_01.html

No Michigan or Colorado College, but Lake Superior State, Western Michigan, St. Cloud State, and Clarkson were among the teams represented. Ironically, Lake Superior State played in the 1992-93 Dexter Classic, but lost to Brown and then won their consolation game. Yes, that's the same LSSU team that Maine beat, 5-4, in the NCAA championship game!

Nyquist with his first career hat trick against the Caps. He's unbelievable. Great watching him and Howie

And now an assist on Abdelkatters tying goal. 8 goals in his last 7 games , he's on fire . And he was denied the Hobey? lol

Have the Dexter in Portland every year. Make UHN a fixture and bring in 2 teams from out west . Or rotate state schools each year. Great venue, great city.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

All we have to do now is find somebody to sponsor it--i.e., pay for it.

Wow, that's awesome! I didn't catch the game, but I'll look for the highlights.

Total team defense, solid goal tending, and much better puck handling in the defensive zone than you saw from UNH last weekend (which miiight have had something to do with Maine's forecheck). Good luck in south bend.

Geesh sorry. I guess it was called JC Penney classic. No wonder we have problems these days...
