I'm very surprised that Howard was picked over Bishop. You would think team USA would go with the hot hand. Quick is injured, Miller has looked defeated on a horrible team all year, and Jimmy has had a miserable season. Bishop is 21-5-3 with a .935 save percentage (on a Tampa bay team known for poor defense)

How has Howard had a miserable season?? Seems to be the prevailing notion not just here but all over. His save percentage is .907 and he has 8 shootout losses. If he wins half of them is it so bad?

What Byrzgalov went through last year was a miserable season. What Maine went though 3 straight years with the starting goalie under .899 was miserable. Howard's not been stellar but he's not been miserable.

Quick's save percentage at the moment is .905. Hank Lundqvist's is .908.

I think Howard is just too reliable not to have on the roster. As you point out, he has a better percentage right now than Quick, but I really think it's his resume that helps him out the most. He's not new to the Olympic scene and has represented USA Hockey at all levels and they know he's dependable and calm under pressure and everyone is comfortable when he is in net because they know he'll make the saves he's supposed to make and a lot of the times he saves the ones that you think he shouldn't make.

Howard's experience with USA Hockey and the fact that he has proven himself repeatedly is why he was chosen over Bishop.

Howard is 6-9-8 this season.. Compare that to the 11-3-2 record of his backup.

His .907 sv% is 32nd in the league.

Pretty miserable for a goalie of Howard's talent level.

Thank you; that needed to be said...

I perhaps would have chosen Bish over Jimmy just on the basis of the numbers alone, but the "body of work" argument for Jimmy isn't specious: Howard has had his feet in the fire before, and performed very well.

(Thing is, I would have considered Bish over Quick, if only because Jonathon doesn't appear to be 100% in a physical sense right now.)

Any UPDATED info on the injurys to O'Conner & Byron...as of Monday sounded like they could miss the Quinnipiac game.

It doesn't matter. He won't see one second of ice time anyway. While a great honor to be picked for the team the 3rd goalie is irrelevant.

Howard > Bish simply based on the experience factor and his age. You want battle tested vets in the Olympics, dont care how well some youngster is playing.

Injury reports will be scarce from now on and any information might come from the players themselves. Red and his staff will not comment on injuries, period.

There's a new article from the Bangor Daily on how attendance at Maine Hockey games is down this year, despite the much improved home record. It's funny that in the article, Mahoney mentions that "...There are also some premium seats that go for $50," without mentioning that what he means by "some" is actually over 1/5 of the available seats!

0-0 after 1. It is apparent that the ecac is a more physical league than he. A ton of hits that our he refs would have called are going unpunished. Late hits, high hits, boards, I like this style better. Feels more like hockey!

Those $50.00 seats were there last year also. Student section hasn't been filled the last few games either.
