Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Red popped into our meeting on campus briefly last Friday (not the first time he's done this) and I was impressed. He said the road win issue will be fixed. You can really tell that he commands respect and discipline from the players and I think its starting to show on the ice.

Red is trying to get everyone to hop on the bandwagon, IMO. But how can you say no to that winning smile.... Hope to see everyone at the game vs AIC.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

.......... I wish him well and appreciate the job he did at Maine. Even with his travails and the sinking of his ship, he still operated a class act.

Absolutely. He did a lot for the University and the student athletes. He was "righting the ship" but it was too, late. Too much lost revenue from attendance. Freshmen and sophomores are predominantly scoring the assists and goals this year. The difference is not all coaching. It never is. Last year's team had a dismal start, but had 2 wins on the road at this same time last year. Last year's team had eight ties, couldn't get over the hump for a win. Would probably have won some of those with this year's freshman class.

A change in coaching staff can be a good thing and often is. It can provide a new beginning and create a spark in the program. The constant badgering and hate mongering going on by a few posters toward TW is tiresome. He's gone, time to look ahead and support the program without the constant references to TW. Just my opinion.

I am in the camp of "he did as well as he could". I just think he was not cut out to be a D1 coach is all. Seems like a good enough egg, but he was in over his head. Seeing that he is now at Kimball Union, maybe that fact has dawned on him and he has found his niche. But apparently there is no comparison in coaching quality between him and Red. That should be evident to anyone who has watched the product on the ice lately. I dont know about you but I get a real joy out of watching this years team operate on the ice and the apparent great condition they are in. Last year Swaverly has no chance in breaking up that crucial breakaway by the UML player imo.

“The coaching has stepped up. Everybody has good coaches. You’re making more adjustments during the course of a game like they do all the time in basketball and football. Before, the main thing was sticking to your systems. That was archaic when you think about it,” said Leach.

That's gotta leave a mark. :D

Coaching is the biggest difference between this years team and last years team, anyone who thinks otherwise needs to lay off the bong.

Is there a practice at the Alford before heading to Florida?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I didn't know this until recently, AIC stands for Almost In College

played them in soccer when I was in school... their other nickname was Animals In Cages because the campus was surrounded by wrought iron fence to keep the outside out....

Like BC then , penitentiary fencing to either keep the outside out or the inside in, sad for a college campus

I remember back to when Lowell was in D2, there was a chant at the hockey game "AIC, Always in Confusion".

It seems very strange people aren't chomping at the bit to pay $50 to see AIC.

Especially when it's bitterly cold out and the game is on TV. But yeah, the $50 ticket price is cost prohibitive so people have to pick their games as well as their seats. To be fair, there were plenty of $23 dollar seats that were empty. Should be interesting to see how the exhibition games scheduled for midweek draw even with the reduced price of $15 a ticket.

Maine is now second in the country for shorthanded goals after tonight's game, behind Mercyhurst and ahead of Notre Dame.
