Every time so far I've tried to make a coherent discussion post on here I never seem to get a normal response...prob because you guys never played hockey just a bunch of Bangor/orono townies with no knowledge

That is pretty harsh, but I have to say I agree with the fact the the hockey knowledge is lacking at times.

The most popular points on this board are:
1. Red Gendron yells more than Tim Whitehead therefor he is a better coach, who holds his players more accountable.
2. UMaine has to cut a good deal of its roster because the current players are either lazy or lack skill.

clearly not opinions of people that played the game at a very high level.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Why the hate?

Just be happy that UM Football right now is much closer to winning a national championship than Maine Hockey is. Any nationally competitive team at the university is great to have.

You should be a little more careful about painting with that broad brush. The forum for most of the townies is over at MBR. People who have some hockey knowledge hang out here. Those with a wealth of knowledge post over on the Facebook page or are on private email lists. What you'll find on all of these right now is that a lot of people are excited about the success of the football team and are talking about it to some degree. We are also discussing the new interim AD on Facebook as well. Everything isn't always hockey. You also are getting some static because of your previous posts lamenting the absence of hockey talk on this board when just today there has been a post about Eric Schurhamer and the possibility of a player leaving the school. We are quite capable of discussing more than one thing at a time.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Zach Glienke has NOT left Maine yet, according to a source. Doesn't mean it won't happen as the player has been on the fence even prior to coming to Maine.

As both an actual human being and an actual Maine HOCKEY fan. Ive always seen Maine football as the biggest waste of money in the schools athletic budget. There's no way Maine fans can financially support both hockey and football (look at either venues empty seats on game days), football cannibalizes attention and resources away from our marquee sport. Maine already feels the effect of title IX, it doesnt need an expensive waste of time like goon league mens football. Maine football could win it all and at exhibition we played against Dalhousie would be worth more to me.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Is there some provision that allows the NCAA to put Maine on the road based on projected or average attendance? I remember reading something like that the year Smith took them to the playoffs but they ended up losing to Towson and someone else so it didnt end up mattering

It used to be that football got more money in donations than hockey. I wonder if its still true

Hockey board. NEWSFLASH: wack pretend half baked D1-AA football is stupid. Who cares if Maine is good at beating up these sped teams. Lets not talk about them anymore because literally no one has ever or will ever care aside from some bandwagon fake fans getting on board now that the season looks like a lock. Football can never be anything more than a distraction from Hockey at Maine, which is exactly what it is serving as right now on this board. Grow up.

The Screamin' Black Bears Pep Band starts every hockey game at the Alfond by playing For Maine after coming out of their locker room, just before going up into the balcony. The lyrics to For Maine are as follows:

For Maine
(Fight Song)

Marching, we’re marching to victory
Sweeping resistance away
Tearing ground with the cheering
Maine’s going to conquer today

GO BEARS!

Now we are nearing the goal line
Gain on steady gain
Nothing can stop us from scoring
Touchdowns for dear old Maine
For Maine, For Maine, For M-A-I-N-E
Maine!

Much like the regionals with hockey, it comes down to your bid. Traditionally, Maine hasn't bid very high because attendance is miserable. Other schools are able to bid so high that the NCAA has to give them a home game - even if a team with a better seed ends up traveling (like when the hockey team had to go to Yost in 2003). If Maine wins out and gets a seed it won't matter - seeds host. I'm pretty sure if they get a bye (top 8) they will host a game before being shipped somewhere for the quarters. Lose to UHN and they could find themselves sent packing in the first round even as a 9 or 10 seed.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I have to say the push back in support of Maine football on here is nauseating...I'm finished trolling I suppose good luck everyone I hope Maine wins the superbowl this year for you all

UH OH... FIGURES & NUMBERS BEING USED TO MAKE A POINT...

The university’s priciest athletic program is the football team, which cost almost $1.2 million this year, according to the report for fiscal 2010. The men’s ice hockey team was budgeted about $900,000

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Was he a healthy scratch for every game? Could he be going to Sioux city for ice time with the idea of returning next year, second semester?
Watched him during the Dalhousie Exhibition game and thought he looked lost and a step behind everyone, not blanking on him...but maybe he needs to be at a lower level and getting regular ice time...some players need a full season in the USHL.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I was at Saturday's game and I agree with what has been said especially by Gendron about Maine seeming to lose a step once they (briefly) took the lead in the 2nd. This guy behind me at the game was relentlessly ragging on Ouellette especially after that first goal. I defended Ouellette throughout the game and when Maine surged in the 3rd Ouellette made huge saves as part of that comeback. When I got home I looked into it. Ouellette played back to back nights against Massachusetts 2 weekends straight and then again this past weekend vs UVM. His Friday night GAA is 1.50, his Saturday night GAA is 3.50. I wonder if fatigue is a factor and wonder if down the stretch we don't give Sullivan some Saturday starts if this trend continues. Thoughts?
Not a bad idea and Sullivan needs some action to see what to expect in case of a injury or slump by Ouellette.

Attendance hasn't been very good for the last two home games. Having the games televised hurts attendance to some degree. Being able to see replays in the comfort of your living room is a big bonus for some. As a hockey season ticket holder (three tickets), I received an invitation from the athletic department to receive three free tickets to this Saturday's football game. I'm sure others here did as well. I'll be there. Just an example of attempts to improve attendance. Closing the dining halls earlier in the season resulted in getting many students to the game for lunch.

Don't ever question the wisdom of Gendron, he's God.:D
