No kidding... If Villanova or UNH (for instance) had done what Maine has done this year, those teams would have been ranked no lower than #2 for most of this season.

Apparently there is a lot more objectivity in the actual NCAA selection process than exists in the silly polls, and I do expect Maine to get a great seed if they win-out, or even if they split... Seeded at home in balmy Orono, they're going to be a very tough out.
Maine can't stop the run and teams have figured that out. That's going to be tough come playoffs. Wash is a stud, unreal how clutch he has been.

While I think that NDS is the class of the FCS by a discernible margin, Maine is certainly within shouting-distance, and I can't wait to see what this team can accomplish while opening the playbook in a one-and-done format.

If there was no difference between FBS and FCS North Dakota State would be #32 in the computers and wondering which bowl they'd be in rather than worrying about playoffs. Maine would be #86 (3rd in FCS). The GPI will be out today and should have Maine in the top 5.

Aren't they already in the top 5? They were #3 last week. Or are you saying they'll remain in the top 5?

11-5-13 GPI

They should remain in the top 5. There are a couple of computers that rank Maine 17 and 18 and they are now 5th or 6th in the computers - behind a pair of 2-loss teams. Depending on which computers are used in the GPI Maine could drop a spot or two. Still, win out and they will get a seed and home field until the semifinals.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

They are #4 this week.

1. N Dakota St (1.00)
2. E Illinois (2.00)
3. E Washington (3.57)
4. Maine (5.57)
5. SE Louisiana (6.43)

The CAA is rated the third-toughest conference.

3. Colonial Athletic Association (33.94)
4. Maine (5.57)
8T. Towson (10.14)
12T. William & Mary (12.86)
15. Villanova (17.86)
30. New Hampshire (27.14)
34. Delaware (31.29)
35. James Madison (32.00)
48. Richmond (42.14)
50. Stony Brook (42.43)
87. Rhode Island (69.43)
106T. Albany (82.43)

Based on remaining schedules, Maine should end up 3 or 4 with a win against UHN (and obviously Rhody) which would get them a seed. I don't think Maine has ever been seeded for the NCAA tournament. Did they ever host a playoff game in the 80's with Jack Buck and Carl Smith? If not, this would be the first time they've ever hosted.

Edit: Also, CSNNE and CSNMA will broadcast the UM-UHN game from Durham to end the season.

Hockey board. NEWSFLASH: wack pretend half baked D1-AA football is stupid. Who cares if Maine is good at beating up these sped teams. Lets not talk about them anymore because literally no one has ever or will ever care aside from some bandwagon fake fans getting on board now that the season looks like a lock. Football can never be anything more than a distraction from Hockey at Maine, which is exactly what it is serving as right now on this board. Grow up.

I love USCHO, great website and great community on here. I use this forum to keep up with the weekly rumor mill and general team news of Maine Hockey. I don't think I should be trying to dictate what is said on here by some forum veterans. I just don't expect the Maine hockey forum to be the Maine football forum. Maybe if you want to talk football you should leave.

Seems you are in the minority about the subject. Can't imagine how you got so full of red chicklets so fast, you have such warm personality.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I was at Saturday's game and I agree with what has been said especially by Gendron about Maine seeming to lose a step once they (briefly) took the lead in the 2nd. This guy behind me at the game was relentlessly ragging on Ouellette especially after that first goal. I defended Ouellette throughout the game and when Maine surged in the 3rd Ouellette made huge saves as part of that comeback. When I got home I looked into it. Ouellette played back to back nights against Massachusetts 2 weekends straight and then again this past weekend vs UVM. His Friday night GAA is 1.50, his Saturday night GAA is 3.50. I wonder if fatigue is a factor and wonder if down the stretch we don't give Sullivan some Saturday starts if this trend continues. Thoughts?

Every now and then other sports at the university are mentioned, especially when a team is on the verge of achieving some things (9-1 start, GPI top 5, home field and an NCAA seed) that no other team in school history has accomplished. It is hardly overwhelming and attention will turn back to hockey soon enough.

Zach Glienke has been added to the roster of the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. Leaving Maine?

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Was he a healthy scratch for every game? Could he be going to Sioux city for ice time with the idea of returning next year, second semester?

He hasn't tweeted anything and his Twitter account still indicates he in Orono (which admittedly means nothing). He is still listed on the Maine roster. He is the only skater who has not played a game yet.

I think it would be good for everyone involved. Would he have to wait until the second semester or could he play at the start of the year?
