Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Cerritani and IIRC Rutt taking selfish penalties late sealed Maine's fate.

Not for the first time. I think both guys have the tools to be decent to good college hockey players but not sure either has what it takes between the ears.

Cerritani and IIRC Rutt taking selfish penalties late sealed Maine's fate. This team doesn't have the talent to overcome avoidable errors.
I am really worried about Rutt...when he finally got into games his Freshman year he had promise but he has a temper...he seemed to not be able to contain himself after the play...figured he'd out grow that and learn his Freshman season...but last year was the same old/same old...and to compound it what promise he had from year one really started to go away in year two, hopefully Gendron gets the message thru to him, although he seems to have that stubborn streak...well if he doesn't he'll be in the Stands viewing or at home when the Bus leaves for away games...its TEAM Time from here on in and he can be a decent d-man for this team...as stated before time will tell and nothing will be solved overnight...

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

We're not going to win many games only scoring 1 goal. Don't think that Rutt or Cerratani are to blame for the loss, but I agree that the after the whistle stuff has to stop. Play hard between the whistles. It's only one game and it's a long season. I'm sure that the coaching staff still has a lot to teach these guys.

You are right,I meant NOT to soley blame Rutt, just concerned that he is more of a plus then a minus by sitting in the box 3-4 times or worst...watching from the stands...its going to be a learning process all year long...good/bad and in betweens...but I am in for the long run and see this just as it is...Rebuilding in everyway...and ONLY good will come from this process down the road.(imo)

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

1-0 Maine after one, start 2nd with 52 secs of PP.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

1-1 with 6 left in the second.... st lawrence tied it on the pp after rutt took a slashing penalty...

and shore heading off for a slash with 5 left in the second

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

flukey play with 8 seconds left in the period and st. lawrence takes a 2-1 lead

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

anthoine ties it up on the power play with 8 left in the third.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

turnover leads to a st lawrence goal. 3-2 larries, 5 minutes left....

and 40 seconds later, it's 4-2 st lawrence

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Coaches must be shaking their heads the lack of discipline by Maine late in the 3rd.
Two quick scores. Wretched.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I really thought the game was over after the second period domination by the Larries--then Maine came out & thoroughly outplayed us in the third. We were frankly lucky to win--Runsub is right, I think. Your goalie is going to steal a couple, too.

I didn't see the game, but your description sounds similar to the radio announcer. The Larries took it to the Bears in the 2nd period and sounded like Ouellette kept Maine in the game. I think the Larries have more talent and should have a successful season.

The 2nd period looked like a 20 minute pp for st l. The 3rd looked good for Maine until the end, boom blew up.

Not shocked, need finishers, the freshmen class needs to develop quickly

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Looked to me that we lost a lot of battles, skated by opportunities to finish checks all over the ice and as a result didn't create many turnovers. Gave them too much respect and space in the dzone. Looking at the career stats, there are not many points there so maybe we can have some success by making the opponent miserable, forcing turnovers, putting the puck on net and getting to the front of the net like rabid dogs....... The pp was unimpressive also, I know they only had a week. Hope to see a lot of progress next week.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

These guys have to learn to hate to lose. I see too much what look like complacency after SLU tied and went ahead. Where is the drive to survive?

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

It's a work in progress, I saw a lot of things to like, and a lot of the same old same old. After SLU took the lead early in the game, there was a lot of individual play, skating the puck into the zone and taking low percentage shots from out high. And when they re-took the lead late, Maine wasn't prepared for the momentum boost that gave them, and were caught flatfooted by the increased intensity, and gave up another one quickly. Mental toughness and the ability to handle adversity need improvement, and yeah, they need to bring a nastier disposition to their play on the ice.

But in the third, they were back to driving the net, making some piles in front, and trying to scrap for goals. And while the PP was ineffective, I was glad to see that it wasn't just 'get the puck to the point for a shot'. They do seem better at getting the puck out of their own end, and moving it up ice, had some moments of real nice playmaking, Their positioning looks better. But also too many moments of falling back into TIMMAY hockey. Gonna take a while for Red to knock that out of them, and to toughen them up both mentally and physically.

TIMMAY really did a job on this program.

The last sentence says it all...it's a work in progress...patience is the word for this season and at times it maybe hard to stomach...some will and some won't...it won't be easy...and most expected that.
