Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

What might also be concerning to UMaine hockey fans is that it looks like there will be as few as three games in Alfond between Homecoming and the end of January.

Nov 5 vs BC
Nov 11 vs Lowell
Dec 3 vs UNH

There might be an additional game, and the Quinnipiac series might be Dec 16-17 or Jan 6-8, but that's still a sparse slate.

Who in Orono said if they don't start generating revenue the athletics department might be on the chopping block?
Anyone who drives around north of Portland that looks around and sees the state dying, slowly but surely

People who work in the athletics department admit that if they don't increase revenue the department might get the ax when the budget cuts come? Larry and Pete should write that story!

I doubt they can raise that much revenue, it would have to be self supporting. That kind of money isn't in Orono or anywhere north of Portland. I'm not sure its in Portland, maybe?

Didn't UMaine have a record number of applicants this year? I heard there is a waiting list now to attend UMaine. With this you would think the money would start funneling back in.

They have waiting list every year, this is not UNH we are talking about

Do not know about "wait lists," but acceptance rates are UMO 82.6%, UNH 80.0%, and UVM 73.4% for 2014-2015, according to 2016 U.S. News & World Report college report. Also, their rankings are UMO #168, UNH #103, and UVM #89 (tie). For frosh who receive grants: UMO 84%, UNH 65%, UVM 92%. I could go on and on, but I do not think that these comparisons have much to do with hockey, as all three schools are having problems competing for blue chippahs.

What the hell is UMO?

ProTip: If you buy tickets for Portland, go through the UM ticket office and pay only a single $6 fee instead of the criminal "facility charge" and "service fee" pricing that Ticketmaster tacks on to every ticket they sell.

No they don't this is the first time in recent memory, if not ever.

UMaine is now offering students from a bunch of northeastern states "in state" tuition. If you live in Connecticut and go to UMaine, you pay the price you would pay at UConn. That sent applications way up.

"Provost Jeffrey Hecker said the longest-serving admissions employee, who has been at UMaine for 30 years, can’t remember it happening. UMaine has wait-listed individual academic programs in the past."

This new program is the first decent decision administration has made in quite a while. It's certainly much better than trying to hoodwink a bunch of kids from Beijing or Chennai. Hopefully some of the kids will stick around after graduation.

Did anybody else catch the national anthem for game 4 in San Jose? It sounded like Mike Tuell was there playing his guitar!

Can you buy through the ticket office online somehow? Going through goblackbears.com routes you through Ticketmaster and two $30 tickets becomes two $40 tickets in a heartbeat.

I believe you need to call them or buy in person. As you say, links go directly to Ticketmaster. I could be wrong but that is likely a contractual obligation.

I thought it was awful and also think the same about Mike's rendition.
