Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Just checking in on my UMaine-iacs friends during quiet time in the offseason ... not baiting and not trolling, promise ... can anyone explain to me what's going on with the US Senatorial race, and what the folks in and around the Downeast think about the two leading candidates? Seems like a total sh!tshow from down here ...

They're linked though. As a fan you want to see BC, BU, PC, Denver, North Dakota, Michigan etc every week. As a coach you want to see Holy Cross, Bentley, Canisius, Sisters of the Poor...

Ideally they'll get three cupcake opponents and two quality opponents (one home, one away) every season and count on the rest of the conference for strength of schedule - unlike last season when Hockey East was dogshit against other conferences, highlighted by a remarkable 3-9 home record against the BTHC and NCHC..

Only one shit show, its the current Senator who if Trump stops suddenly she ends up in his small intestine

Right but that's the risk, right? If the money gap between the Big Ten and everyone else continues to grow, and Denver who doesn't have to feed a football program can spend more money, and North Dakota continues to have the highest revenues in the sport, CAN Maine rely on Hockey East for SoS in the future? Hockey East was penalized a lot more under the switch away from PWR- is that an endemic issue that will continue or a one year blip? If there is not a ton of separation in spending from the top to the middle/bottom of Hockey East, and no one can separate, are we just dragging ourselves to the bottom? If Maine schedules the AHA all-stars and Quinnipiac plus Hockey East, and goes like 22-12, is that enough?

I don't want to see iron every week, that's a recipe for turning into Ohio State. I do think there is a balance, and I'm more willing to swallow games against Bentley, Holy Cross, and Colgate if there's a Quinnipiac and Denver or whoever on the schedule, too.
