Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

While we're on the topic of scheduling, I'd imagine it's pretty likely that Maine will have a home game on 2/5/27 this season as that is the date Alfond opened 50 years ago.
That's Crockpot weekend, so it would fit that we'd play our single against BU (if we do). We should host a pair with Boston College and Northeastern, which eliminates both as an option.

We should host BC, PC, Lowell, UMass and Northeastern and have road trips to BU, UNH, UVM, MC and UConn for pairs. Then single games against four unknown opponents.

The Hockey East schedule is the reverse from last year, including the triples.

Always thought that football could easily cut costs by breaking off from the CAA and forming Yankee Conference 2.0/AmEast Football with NH, URI, Albany, Merrimack, Bryant, Stonehill. Six teams get you an auto-bid to the NCAA tourney, and every team is a bus ride away, which would save Athletics quite a bit of money that would otherwise go to FB plane rides for conference games.
Not a bad idea, but the CAA is a very good conference that usually garners multiple bids.

Guess you can't have it both ways, but I do love Maine football. I've been mocked for saying this sort of thing, but football has been the flagship -on average- for most of the past 15-20 years.

That lines up perfectly for a BU game in Alfond on 2/5/27 since Maine went to Agganis on 2/6/26.
Not necessarily, the opponents do not change, but the sites flip. Schedules are still flexible.

Assuming no changes to the league schedule rotation, for 27-28, the third games will change across Hockey East. However, the two game weekend series for Maine and Vermont will not change from 26-27.

I know dates can and will change, but we have a history of playing singles against crockpot teams the Friday before the crockpot, we played BU the same weekend last year and we have a single against them this season. It seems like a natural fit.
