Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

Well, the quality of their play has certainly declined after the high point of beating NU at Alfond. They clearly didn't come to play early in any of their last six games or so, with the possible exception of the Saturday game against Connecticut. I would say a lot of that falls on Red for failing to get his team ready to play. I still have faith, though, because as I've said a few times, I truly believe Maine can play with and beat anybody if they are playing well and play a complete game. For that reason, I still have faith in them to make some noise, but my enthusiasm has defintely been dampened.

They are capable of playing well as they had for certain games. It baffles me how they do it and then not. It's been that way for a while (years) now. Not that I had much at all for expectations down the stretch here but the way things were shaping up was fun. Finish out the ride and see how things go the rest of the way is all we can do.

Well... it looks like the stage is set.

Beat Providence and hope that UML beats UConn.

Otherwise, we’re hitting the road.

Whoa, you guys keep random stuff at will.

Must be 40 years since I've seen that movie. Crazy.

you need to get out more :) 40 years for Animal House, that ain't right

Re: Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

You can bet you'll see a much different Maine team this coming Friday....and I'll go out on a limb and say Maine SMOKES PC, 6-2.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

Lowell and UConn can play pass for 65 minutes and both get home ice unless Maine wins and BU sweeps NU. A win for either team in that game and a Maine win = Maine home ice. Maine would likely host the loser of that game or BU.

Pretty far out on that limb.
I'll be at the game. See what happens and senior nite is always good to make.

I know and hear you...but I do have confidence at home...and a long time pay back is due for PC. Like I said I am sticking to them smoking them on the ice.

Wouldn't a UConn win ensure Maine can't get home ice, since then Connecticut would be in 3rd with 28 points and Maine and Lowell tied for 4th at 27, and thus making Maine the five seed and headed to Tsongas since Lowell holds the tiebreaker on them?

Truly😁. I mean animal House was funny but remembering lines or routinely watching it. 🙄

Some of the lines are very memorable. You shouldn't look down on people who have memorized them. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Mike - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but I for one am not going to stand here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

You're right. I was misreading the chart. If that happens, and BU *does* sweep NU then all three would have 27 and Maine would win the tiebreaker and host.

How does that work? It must have something to do with BU holding the tiebreaker on Lowell, but I don't understand how Maine can finish ahead of Lowell while losing the tiebreaker because of BU having it on the River Hawks.

In a three-way tie the H2H of all teams is calculated. Maine is 1-1-2, UML and BU are both 1-1-3. The next tiebreaker is league wins. In that scenario, Maine has 12 while Lowell and BU have 11. The result would be 4 Maine - 5 BU - 6 Lowell

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the lesson. I think that scenario would be most favorable, I think at this point Maine stands a better chance at getting by BU than they do Connecticut, as strange as that may sound.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

Maine win= Maine 4 or 5
Maine tie = Maine 5 or 6
Maine loss = Maine 6 or 7
