Re: Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

Gotta think the best is Alfie's 1999 title game performance, when you factor the context and importance of the moment. But dang this is right up there as well.

Also in the running:
Blair Allison's 1995 Frozen Four game against Michigan.
Jimmy's 2004 Hockey East Final against UMass.
Only one period, but Garth's third period against Lake State in the 1993 title game was phenomenal.

Agree about Alfie that night. And UHN was as scary a team as he could have faced. Many sphincter spasms as a result, but a happy ending.

You should help. Miracles happen. Do we have home ice now or not!

All worthy mentions.

But Frank Doyle's bailout of Jimmy in the Albany Regional in '99 was beyond epic, too.

(****, I'm old, I was almost going to reference Torts and Nord back in the Stone Age... They weren't chopped liver, either.)

Jimmy’s 04 Hockey East Final performance was the reason I started playing hockey

Except for Jimmy. Let’s not act like we haven’t seen good goaltending in life.

Last I knew Maine goalies have produced the third most NHL wins of any college, behind Wisconsin and North Dakota.

Let's hope Theissen is playing attention to the guy in front of him and is ready to take the reins next year.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2020: The Hunt For Red October

Maine will remain at 15 nationally. The difference between a series vs UConn or a series vs BU is negligible for pairwise purposes. In order to qualify for the tournament Maine will likely need a QF sweep and one win in Boston.

They can just save us all a lot of headache by winning Hockey East so let's go with that.

Oh-oh.

Certainly won't bet that farm on that happening.
