Re: Maine Black Bears 2019: Offseason Approaching

A guy I work with told me about this story https://www.islandinstitute.org/working-waterfront/defending-nation-downeast which I found very interesting. I’ve been thru the towns but didn’t know much about what the bases did.

It’s interesting we’re the only corner of the country with no real defense. I’m sure the powers that be know what they are doing, but you would think there would be at least one base between Boston and the border with fighters.

Maine has become a very low priority target now, since the B-52's and their nuclear payloads are gone from Limestone. Same deal near me in Upstate NY.

Not necessarily a bad thing, if S4Brains pushes the wrong button in his sleep. ;)

Vermont air national guard has a fighter wing to cover northern New England

When we were fishing the Potomac we saw two apaches escort mr trump. Also, there was a huge traffic jam in nj. North bound on 95 was all bottled up. Evidently there was a fire fighter and ex military died. And it is all hush hush.

Sheesh we have to be hush hush. ;)

Not hush hush at all. Marine Staff Sergeant and current active FDNY Fire Fighter Christopher Slutman was one of 3 US Service Members killed last week in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan. He was a decorated 15 year member of the FDNY serving at Ladder Company 27 in the Bronx. He leaves behind a wife and 3 young daughters. Lived his life protecting both his country and his community. Rest In Peace.

Sad to hear....yes R.I.P.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2019: Offseason Approaching

UMaine hero Marcus Gustafsson just announced his son Lukas will play college hockey. The Alfond faithful will get to see him play...a couple times a season because he's going to Boston College.

since it is offseason, what does everyone think of pats draft? I like that the took a WR with first pick. I think DE/OLB pick Winovich is great, probably be like Ninkovich in time. Probably special teamer impact early in the season. Only thing that might have made things better would have been getting a solid TE. I watched a bunch of combine footage and highlights and I think that Irv Smith would have been a great pick. But it seems like the Pats are happy with SeferinJenkins from UMass.

That's been the trend, why is anyone surprised.....if your in there shoes would you go to Maine..? Or another school that plays for Hardware each and every year..? Until Maine improves and wins....don't expect the top recruits to even sniff at Maine. AND does the influence of Jerry York and his Staff make a whole lot of difference over Gendron and Staff....

Looks like it, but a smart kid would choose PC over Maine. ;)

Asked how he feels about his son being an Eagle:
"It hurts a little...not gonna lie, but happy and proud of how he came to the decision It is his ride, not mine and I support his decision 100%."

Still, lovely.

Two teammates from 99 championship team can’t sell his son. Looks like Red is one hell of an anchor. Nice Red, drag down UMaine in the name of making UMaine better. Complete disaster hiring this guy.

If he went to UVM or UNH i’d be upset but BC is completely different from Maine. He obviously wants to be in a more urban setting which is his right. I wish him nothing but the best.

What makes you think those two teammates ever got a chance to make the case?

I remember having a conversation with Lee when Travis chose Boston University over Maine. Shawn had called the first morning of recruiting, "Let me know when Trav gets up. I'm in the driveway." Many schools were in the mix, but in the end it came down to UM and BU. "The deciding factor wasn't Shawn or Jack or any of it. Travis has lived in the country his whole life and wanted to experience life in a city."
