Re: Maine Black Bears 2019-20: Seeing Red

I take nothing for granted anymore. I remember all too well what happened the last time Maine came to town.
For Maine to split with QU they need to have Swayman be the best player on the ice both nights...tall order for that, but he has done it before...especially the last time, even when QU got out to a quick 3-0 lead the 1st game...Maine will need to keep the scoring down, and discipline hockey is a must. And your right, you never take any team for granted, especially in the early going of the season.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2019-20: Seeing Red

Yeah, if Ferguson is done, so goes the season.

But I'll watch just the same to see the new kid. His numbers were pretty good, despite the situation you describe.

(And I think the running game could be much better, too. Maine has two backs who can find space in spread sets, but seem reluctant to call those plays for whatever reason. Maybe with Ferguson out, we'll see a more diversified offense.)
The key for Maine will be how well they can run the ball and control the clock...plus the "D" has to come thru, tackling and staying away from the big play...and no more un-discipline penalty's after the play...too many this year already.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2019-20: Seeing Red

My hope is that Maine can play a pair of good, close games, even though I don't expect them to win either of them. I really just dont want to see them get their sh-t kicked in two straight games. Sadly, my gut feeling tells me Maine will get their sh-t kicked in two straight nights.

Swayman is the key to the whole season. Like to think they could steal one but after years of Red I'm pretty jaded.

The game is on ESPN+

I was just perusing the media guide while waiting for the audio to load...nice to see it still has the contact information from 2017.

1-0 Maine after the first. Shots 10-5 for Maine, attempted shots 16-7 for Maine. Faceoffs even 9-9. Sounds like a really solid period.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2019-20: Seeing Red

Quinnipiac hits the crossbar on a shorthanded bid, then seconds later Doherty scores the PPG to give Maine a 3-2 lead. The play is under review.

The goal was called good after review, then the officials met again and the play is back under review.

And finally the goal is confirmed. 3-2 Maine.

Maine wins 4-2 despite being outshot 33-18. Good night for Tralmaks (2G, 1A) and Fossier (3A) and a stellar performance from Swayman (31 saves)

Shots were even after 2 periods. Maine just got completed crushed in the 3rd, but they actually got the key insurance goal and great goaltending to seal the win.
