Truly, though, I'm amazed that Red has an above .500 record in any subset... Most of the wins just had to have come when he still had some TW left-overs.

I knew you would eventually post this statistic.;) Thanks. This may not be the total answer but it appears that these two coaches know the system Gendron uses and they have the plan and players to counter it.

Gendron's system is to recruit poorly, last I checked. ;)

Yeah if its already at 27 the chances they get to 14 are pretty slim. Their only way in is to win the HE tourney riding Sway. Him being on crutches for that isn't going to work very well :D

For comparison Coach Whitehead at Maine had the second best winning percentage after 7 seasons at 0.641 (although he dropped to 4th with a 0.610 winning percentage after 8 seasons) and Coach Walsh was 6th with a 0.603 winning percentage (and Coach Walsh's record just got better after that).

I'd feel better if red was trending up, but I'd guess he isn't.

I deleted my previous post about this because after looking at Coach Gendron's team-by-team records against the other Hockey East teams I realized that this is in error. While he is 3-31-1 against NU and PC, that includes the 8 playoff losses (4 to NU, 4 to PC). In league play he is 3-23-1 (0.130) against NU and PC and 49-51-17 (0.491) against the rest of the league. Overall (and Maine played several non-conference games vs UMass, UNH and UVM to fill in the schedule when the league schedule was reduced from 27 to 20 and then 22 games) Coach Gendron is 59-95-18 (0.395) vs league teams and Notre Dame. When the 3-31-1 record vs NU and PC is excluded he is 56-64-17 (0.471) vs the rest of the league teams and Notre Dame. His team by team records:
Massachusetts - 10-3-1 0.750 in league, 12-4-1 0.735 overall
Merrimack - 7-3-2 0.667 in league, 8-3-2 0.692 overall
Vermont - 6-4-3 0.577 in league, 7-12-3 0.386 overall
New Hampshire - 7-5-4 0.563 in league, 10-9-4 0.522 overall
Boston University - 7-8-1 0.469 in league and overall
Boston College - 5-9-0 0.357 in league and overall
UMass Lowell - 4-8-2 0.357 in league and overall
Connecticut - 2-5-3 0.350 in league and overall
Notre Dame - 1-6-1 0.188 in league and overall
Northeastern - 2-11-1 0.179 in league, 2-15-1 0.139 overall

Coach Gendron has been trending up since his fourth season:
1st - 16-15-4 - 0.514- 7 of 32
2nd - 30-37-7 - 0.453 - 14 of 32
3rd - 38-61-13 - 0.397 - 19 of 27
4th - 49-82-17 - 0.389 - 22 of 26
5th - 67-98-21 - 0.417 - 18 of 24
6th - 82-115-25 - 0.426 - 15 of 20
7th - 89-120-27 - 0.434 - 13 of 17

However, it is nothing like Coach Leaman's or Coach Carvel's improved winning percentage. His improvement from his 4th to 7th season is not even as good as that of Coach Dennehy (0.045 vs 0.135 improvement).

When he took the job, they gave him a 4 year deal...I could see giving him 4 years...he added if he did not win during that tenure he should not be resigned, but nope...last AD's fell over and gave extensions...not that they were warranted(imo). Now the Program is no better off then when he took over in recruiting and for improving in moving forward. His record spells it right out: Bad. But will this AD now in place weigh that in...I keep hearing at the rink and around the area that Ralph is a hockey guy and will and be the man to fix Maine's problems...after awhile when does common sense take over...as in Firing/Buyout/or RG decides to move on. Way too many ???? in reshaping Maine Hockey Program. As far a Gendron...he reminds me of Baseball's Don Zimmer as in a great Baseball mind...Zim was a great 3rd base Coach and Bench Coach, but was over his head as a Manager(imo)...that's how I see Gendron, has the hockey know how, but as a Assistant not the Man in charge behind the Bench and Program.

Yeah, after I read your post last night I realized I had crossed the streams. The record vs individual teams includes all games including playoffs, but the record I cited was only regular season games that counted in conference standings.
 
The sweep this weekend has turned this entire thread around. And justifiably so. There was optimism and a brief ray of sunshine last week.
Maine can play with a Northeastern on Maine’s better nights, but did not do so at Matthews. Matthews as always was horrible. 20% full at best, no beer, sh:tty seats.

When Maine is on, I believe that they can stack up to anybody in the nation.
