Re: Maine 2018, 2019 Footba, I mean hockey thread.

Can someone explain how that wasn't a trip on Michel towards the end? And another awful sequence from Binner..

Being the only team in Hockey East not to beat UConn is looming pretty large. Especially after BU shut out Lowell tonight.

Even the color broadcaster said he was surprised they didn't get called. But they clearly swallowed the whistle well before that.

Disappointed Michel/Binner getting sucked down with nobody back.

However Maine played great and to me Primeau was the difference. He robbed some goals. Not sure Swayman did. The pipe was our friend. And Smith had the save of the game when Davies had a wide open net.

Tough loss, but was happy overall with Maine's play.

And the tie at Alfond against New Hampshire that they should have won, that one also stings. As for tonight, a winnable game they let slip away. Binner was awful. Great game to watch, though, Primeau and Swayman were both phenomenal as expected. If they don't get run out of Boston faster than the British tomorrow night, I bet they win.

Providence vs BC is in OT.

Umass vs UNH is in OT.

Maine vs NU is in OT.

Evidently I jinxed the bottom three seeds... they all lost. Umass needed two OTs to down UNH.

Great first night of hockey east playoffs.

I assume you mean Maine fans. From the video feed looked empty.

I have no idea because I was at another game, but one thing about Matthews is it ALWAYS looks empty on TV, because most of the fans sit in the balcony instead of the lower bowl.

Crowd sounded loud on the radio and the crew talked about the fans several times. I think almost everyone was up in the balcony.

They showed balcony too. I think it was about 25 percent full. I don't think I would characterize it as a big crowd. The band seemed good though. I liked the game of thrones theme song.

Edit: This says 1620 attended. http://hockeyeastonline.com/men/boxes19.php?mmnenoe1.m15

So close to winning but just not enough finishing to secure the W.....difference is Primeau stole a few goals from Maine...he's a difference maker...still like the chances tonight with Swayman and crew......should be a even larger Maine crowd for a Saturday game...go Maine..!

I was being sarcastic about the crowd. The place looked empty.

Keep in mind that playoff tickets aren't included in season ticket packages, so they can't fudge it for these games. It wasn't full but it was probably an average-below average crowd. I've seen far worse.

Was surprised with the turnout in the Maine direction, it was fine but I expected a bigger section.

Students are on break also (one of the reasons why if these series extends to three games, the largest crowd is usually the Sunday game when most of them are back). [At least they're on break at BU and UMass - I assume the others schools have their breaks at the same time].

Re: Maine 2018, 2019 Footba, I mean hockey thread.

WMEB used to stream hockey and I used to like that they posted the post game coach presser. Wonder what happened, their sports minded student(s) moved on I suppose?

I can't speak for the current staff at WMEB, but Bryan Roche and Cody Beckett were the driving force behind the station's hockey resurgence. In addition to their love of hockey they brought technical knowledge to the station, allowing WMEB to broadcast on places like TuneIn and digitally with sports-only streams. They also did road games when time and budget allowed - Bryan and I still remember well their placement right next to the goal horn at Merrimack when Maine lost 6-0 and we heard that damm horn repeatedly. Then the Fenway marathon game with Cody, Alex Quirk and Whitneigh Kinne was awesome. When that group graduated a lot of the passion left with them. I have heard rumors of budget cuts, but it might be more accurate to say the money has been allocated to different things. I don't know the full story. They don't seem to be on TuneIn anymore, the sports website hasn't been updated since Mike Schuman graduated four years ago, the twitter account hasn't sent a message since 2017 and the sports tag at WMEB.com no longer exists.

I miss the weekend nights listening to that crew though.

Maine students began their one week break yesterday.
