I know Orono is a heck of a long way from Kansas City, but, is there any organized contingent of Maine fans coming to Kansas City this weekend? At a cursory glance, I didn't even see any mention of the Icebreaker in this thread, even.
So, aside from half descent goaltending, are there any other positives to take out of these first couple of games? I don't give us much of a chance of beating Notre Dame either on fri.
Jon Swavely blocked a shot in Sunday's game and took a shot to the knee by the puck. Hopefully, no long term damage. His younger brother Steve was HE rookie of the week.
I thought that most of the new players looked pretty good. It's going to take some time this year for guys to get used to playing together, no two ways about it.
I liked Hutton alot, he can skate. I also liked Shore, he skates around the net looking for the puck. The PP needs practice and seeing as they hadn't had any it looked awful and I hope it doesn't stay that way once they have a few sessionsSo, aside from half descent goaltending, are there any other positives to take out of these first couple of games? I'm hearing rumors that the parking lot right beside the field house that was for season ticket holders is now charging 10 bucks to park. The product on the ice has gone downhill but the amount of money it takes to follow the product keeps going up. I know they(AD) need money but you are going to drive folks away milking them for every dime they have. Gas is 4 bucks a gallon, its costly traveling to Alfond and they expect folks to just keep on coughing up the bucks. Short sighted if you ask me

couldn't tell if that was tongue in cheek or not rufus. clearly the one thing you can't criticize whitehead and his staff for is having a poor powerplay because they've had dynamite numbers recently. With so many new players on those lines it's reasonable to have some learning curve. if, at the end of the year, few improvements have been made then sure go ahead and criticize.
This weekend I saw examples of both. Shore's goal was a perfect finish text book play off a solid pass. By the same token same Shemansky miss 2 opportunites, one on a clear shot , after a great pass against QU and the other on a solid pass on the PP that was a faked shot that he sent wide...there are some good passers and some players who can catch a pass, but too often i saw players miss a great pass or make a poor pass that led to a turn over. it is early in season and there are all sorts of new combos...if this is still the situation in 3 weeks...well, hold onto your tocques...it will be a bumpy ridewhen so few of whiteheads's players (over the past at least 8 years) can actually pass tape-to-tape on the PP, and Merrimack players have little trouble doing it, one might start to think that it is the coach and not the players.
the last few years the PP benefitted from Nyquist in general and Flynn's ability to get rid of a great shot after being passed the puck into his skates, behind him or way ahead of him.
there are not many Nyquists and there are honestly even fewer flynns who can take shots like that.
