Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

BC beat Lowell 6-3 so they will stay at the #1 ranking. Hopefully that will get the team fired up...or the opposite

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

This BC team does not have the scoring depth of past teams. The top 2 forward lines are both excellent and can score with anyone, but it drops off badly after that, with what in reality is two 4th lines that have yet to produce a single point. There are some new faces on Defense, and while this was somewhat of a question mark going into the season, they have played quite well, especially Matheson and Doherty who have pretty much fit right in from the get-go. Milner is having another strong season thus far with a .931 save % and a GAA just under 2. If Maine can shut down the two top lines, they have a chance.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

If Maine can shut down the two top lines, they have a chance.

First, Maine's defense is horrible.
Second, Maine's offense is horrible.
Third, Maine's goal tending is mediocre at best.

The chance of Maine shutting down BC's top two lines is very close to zero. The chances of Maine scoring more than one goal is not great either.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Just because you have kids coming from the USHL doesn't mean a thing. The top kids in the USHL are obviously good recruits, but there are dozens and dozens of lesser players/recruits that are hardly going to become college All-Americans. It's pretty simple, the kids that teams like BC, BU, MN, Michigan, NoDak, DU, etc get are the top players in their age group in the country. They are on all the select teams, they are typically high draft picks and have been singled out for their play since they were pee-wees. These are not the kids that Maine is getting on a regular basis anymore and you are certainly not winning recruiting battles against those aforementioned teams. Not long ago, you were getting guys like Janik, Moore, the Heisten brothers, the Kariya brothers, Howard, etc, etc, but not so much anymore. It's pretty simple, when you've scored 10 combined goals in going 1-6 in 7 games, 4 of which were against a very weak Army team, the rest against mediocre teams at best, you clearly don't have much talent.

Any good hockey east recruits playing for the Indiana Ice?

Florida College Classic aside, because it's a good vacation and there are some good teams this year, I've decided to take the money I usually spend on webcasting and use it to actually watch hockey (or is that to watch actual hockey?)

Answering my own question, it looks like the local team has BU, Union, UNO, Michigan, Denver, CC, and some other recruits. Plus Brian Morgan (Maine 2013). I'm sure other USHL clubs are much more stacked, but that's not too shabby.

Finally Larry wrote all of the good things about the Maine team that i can agree with in his write up of the saturday night loss to Providence.

did anyone else see the post game review???

Have not seen it............do you have a link..........Thanks

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

PC is playing very well right now.....and we're not. PC was solid in all aspects, O, D, and in goal. Saturdays game was a clinic in crisp puck movement, solid d zone coverage, puck pressure, finishing hits. We had very few bright spots.......

PC is improving with the recruits they've got. Also, they got a very good goalie from NU when he de-committed from them. It's not surprising that PC is getting better.

BC will not take Maine lightly even if Maine is struggling. Usually a tough road game in Orono for BC. Whitehead has not done bad at Maine but the talent is thin this season.

Couple questions for everyone...Do you think Maine will be more up for this weekend's games than the other games this year? They certainly have much more of a rivalry with BC and UNH than the teams we've played so far. Are people on here not giving the teams Maine has lost to enough credit? All are ranked 23 or higher this week. I'm not saying they're all great but I don't think they are absolute rubbish either.

Does anyone want a pair of tix to Sunday's game? I unfortunately can't go. They are good seats in what used to be section EEE and I don't want any money for them.

St. Lawrence and Providence are both teams. Both will finish in the top half of their leagues (PC 5th or better in HE, SLU 6th or better in ECAC). Both have good goalies. I was really impressed with SLU's Carey and Flanigan. Maine has a serious lack of talent, but even worse a serious lack of coaching. In both series, Whitehead was seriously out coached. X's and O's went to Carvel and Leaman.

I was more disappointed with the work ethic rather than X's and O's. It just seemed we were getting beat to the puck, or outnumbered on the puck all night.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

They played beaten before they even lost the games.

A common theme with Whitehead coached teams. Just no consistent hunger to win. So you get mostly downers with an occasional upper.==== mediocrity.

Just exactly like you had at UML for years and years until they were smart enough not to extend his contract for as long as he wanted and they went different directions. We can only hope we part with him as soon as possible to get the program back on track. We owe
him nothing at this point. Nothing.

Lets HOPE that: X's x O's= Out the Door come late March early April.

The more I think about it, the less I believe that UMaine will eat any of Tim's bloated salary... A buy-out just too hard a sell in this economy. He's going to continue to rip-off the taxpayers through '13-'14, IMO.

Don't blame him, blame Blake James, who somehow railroaded Tim's undeserved extension past whomever should have been paying attention a few years ago.

If he somehow gets extended again in '14..? I'm going to become a BC fan!

If you're playing the number one team in the country you should come out with a spark. Have to believe this team will do so.
