Lobsterfest will be held once again this year at the Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth. Date is September 25th with all proceeds benefiting the hockey program. $60.00 per person and limited to 80 people. Very nice event with an opportunity to meet players and meet other fans.

Preposterous. The only REAL Lobsterfest is in Winter Harbor!

Priceless lives! Any luck with those specific questions you were asked a few pages back or you still thinking it over and just jumping in when the snarkiness suits your agenda?

Just jumping in to provide pertinent details when the situation calls for it. Don't worry, I shall not bring any optimism into the gloomiest and most negative thread on the site.

will we see you at lobsterfest, helping out the program?

Shrug. You are FOS. You're a hit and run artist now interested in discussion. Carry on your worshipfulness.

I'm interested in discussion? I pointed out that Tortorella had asked Shawn for a job and was turned down and had instead gone to UHN to work for Umile. Now he is returning to UHN. My apologies for posting a few facts. I temporarily forgot this thread was a fact-free zone. We now return you to your regularly scheduled whining.

It's too bad that he didn't even approach his alma mater this time around. Especially when he could bring a lot of experience to a coaching position we lack actual coaching.

Guess that first stint with UNH was good enough to warrant a second one. Too bad for Maine...

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

I'm trying to understand under what conditions Tort leaves a head coaching job at Colby, presumeably reasonably well paid in a nice area, to go to UHN as an assistant coach. Unlike Maine which currently has no plan for succession for our favorite coach Timmay, Umile has apparently hand selected his successor. I give whistlin Dick 2 more years before he whistles no 'mo. Question is, can Jimmay give Dickie his elusive NC?

Was he getting paid at Colby,I wonder..?

How these things work at the D-3 level are a mystery to me,but I agree that it seems odd that he'd abandon that gig unless he had a reasonable expectation of moving up the ladder at UNH,sooner rather than later.

FOMH announces a new electronic newsletter. I received this information in an e-mail. Dave Wollstadt has retired from being the current newsletter editor and the organization has used the opportunity to go electronic in order to reduce costs. Special thanks to Dave for all of his hard work and dedication over the years for "cranking" this out. The new format will be 12 - 16 pages in length and there will be at least 8 issues. I will miss the hard copy, there is still something nice about holding a book or newspaper in your hands. Sign of the times. First issue goes to press September 15th.

It was/is a great newspaper, loved getting it in the mail.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

From the article it says Zach signed a 2 year deal with the Pens, it doesn't say its a 2 way contract. To me that that says he is going to get paid NHL wages no matter what, so they must think he is going to make the team.

Sill would have been an excellent addition to Maine, you could see it in the games he played before being dismissed. Its in the past, get over it.

Go Black Bears! We rule!!!!

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

A few people expressed more information on the Fenway hockey game. I received this e-mail which should answer most questions. The hypertext in this message may not take you to the site, not sure how this will appear.

On behalf of the Hockey East Association, the University of Maine, Fenway Sports Management and the Boston Red Sox we are pleased to bring you an exciting event this winter. On Saturday, January 7th, 2012, college hockey returns to "America's Most
Beloved Ballpark" when four Hockey East foes skate in the shadow of the Green Monster in a unique doubleheader!

In Game 2, your University of Maine Black Bears renew their rivalry with the University of New Hampshire when they face off at Fenway Park at 7:30 P.M. The first game will feature another "state school" battle when the University of Vermont takes on
the University of Massachusetts beginning at 4:00 P.M.

Ticket prices start at just $5 and each ticket is valid for both games. The doubleheader builds upon the success of Frozen Fenway 2010 which featured the UNH women's hockey team defeating Northeastern and the Boston University men's team outlasting
Boston College.

You may have already purchased through the Maine Athletic Ticket Office, but this reminder serves as the last notice before tickets are made available to the general public on September 13th.

Here's what you can purchase:
· Ticket Limits: you can purchase a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction.
· Tickets will range in admission price from $5.00 to $50.00.
· The sale will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

I have a feeling there will be lots of college hockey on television. Versus is currently negotiating deals to broadcast regional college hockey games already under contract with regional broadcasters (NESN). Versus is owned by Comcast and is renaming themselves as NBC Sports Network. Versus has already signed Doc Emrich who was previously doing play by play for the New Jersey Devils. College Sports Network already has a similar deal like the one Versus is seeking. I suspect that fans will not have to go to Fenway in order to see those two games along with many others. College hockey is gaining more exposure every year.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Good Lord,I hope that deal goes through!

Doc is the best-prepared play-by-play guy in any level of hockey,if you ask me,and he's just fun to listen to...Seeing HEA games here in NY would trump the multiple WCHA and ECAC games we get every weekend.

BRING IT ON!(I won't sleep a wink all winter, watching hockey all night, but who cares?)
