LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

I think we may have found our goalie .

I though Mitens played terrific last night. He didn't have a chance on the 1st Tech goal; L'Esperance rifled it in point blank from in front of the net. I couldn't tell how the 2nd Tech goal went in from where I was at. Saccoman was trying to tie up Gillies in front of the net, but I assume Gilies somehow batted the loose puck by Mitens. I think Mittens will definitely get a start next weekend at Denver, maybe even both games. But it is non-conference so Kossoff might get get a start in one of the games. Too bad the PP was unproductive last night. The Lakers could have won the game with a PP goal. They have streaks where it seems like they try to get too cute and look for the perfect play and no one winds up wanting to shoot the puck. They must had had around 2 minutes of 5 on 3 last night between the two occasions and I think they only had 1 or maybe 2 shots on net during those times.

Heard on 101.3 this morning that Yes FM will be picking up a feed from Denver for the series this weekend. They will be on 99.5, but will NOT be broadcast on the internet.

After a quick look, it looks like the Pioneers games get broadcast from this station: http://1043thefan.com/ . If you are not in the area, and do not want to pay the NCHC to stream the game, this will likely be the best choice to listen to the games.

December 2014 when they played at North Dakota. They lost 7-4 & 3-1, but hung with them as I recall. They even had 3-0 and 4-1 leads in that Friday game.

Prior to that, October 29 and 30, 2010 against Miami. The lost 6-2 and tied 2-2, losing in a shootout.

Wow. What an epic game by Nick Kossoff.

He was great - including the 3-on-3 OT he made 67 saves on 71 shots. He certainly made Denver work tonight. It was tough to see him really hanging his head immediately after giving up the 'exhibition' goal, but great to see his Laker teammates get to him quickly and assure him of how well he played. He WAS the reason that game ended in a tie...

Unbelievable. 66 shots faced (64 through regulation). Anybody know what the Lakers' record is in that category?

Kossoff set the school record tonight with his 63 saves. The old record was Matt Violin with 60 saves against UAF on 1/17/2003.

Kossoff's 26 saves in the 3rd period also set a school record with most saves in a single period.

Got to feel good for yourself making the saves Kossoff did . To tie a team like Denver in their thin air with that many shots against you , takes some air out of the Denver team. Good game Nick .

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Quite a lesson to be shot at 120 times over two games . I am sure the thin air didn't help . Has to be an eye opener to know how good they must become before they can be consider national contenders again . Was glad to see Mitons got the call Saturday night .

They stayed with then pretty well on the scoreboard until they took the 2 penalties late in the 2nd period and Denver scored to take the lead with a 5 on 3 man advantage. That gave Denver a lot of momentum going into the 3rd period. But yeah, the Lakers have become a better skating team since Damon took over but they still have to get better in that area to compete with the top teams in the country. They may be good enough to steal a victory occasionally with hot goaltending and some timely goals, but to compete against the best on a fairly equal basis they still have a ways to go.
