LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

That is nit picking. If you go to the rankings on the USCHO page, the Lakers are 59th but I hate to think someone would defend that and say in other polls they are 58. SERIOUSLY ?

I mean, cclif isn't wrong:

The Lakers are 58th on both USCHO and CHN for KRACH rankings. Sure, being 58th or 59th doesn't really matter, but if you're going to complain about something, at least look at the right rankings before calling someone out.

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

I am using the KRACH not the PWR, they are slightly different. LSSU is currently 59 in the PWR. The historical data I used was from the KRACH not the PWR so I thought it was right to use the current KRACH rather than the PWR. The PWR calculation was changed several years ago and did not include all teams. The KRACH had a longer history of using the same calculation so I decided to look at that.

Yes that's the original contract agreement, but what seems to be uncertain is whether he has been extended. I heard he has another year but I don't know for sure. The current interim school president supports him. We also have a new (this season) AD. Despite the disappointing season, it could be that he has been extended for another year. A year from now, we'll have a new permanent president in place and the AD will be finishing his second full season as AD. I can easily see a coaching decision being moved back to then.

Not calling anyone out or complaining. LSSU is ranked 59th in the CHN Pairwise and RPI rankings I'm looking at right now. The fact that we are even discussing whether they are the second worst or third worst team in all of college hockey speaks volumes to where this program is after 4 years of this coach.

He will be back for a 5th that has already been determined, however, it's safe to think that the University won't be needing to shell out for any of the performance bonuses listed in section 5

If he was extended it happened after our last FOIA request on June 16, 2017.

Whitten will be there as long as he wants the job. I think the higher ups just flat out like Whitten .

You couldn’t be more right. Starting with the Comley ”Committee” to the last Athletic Director, to his current higher up defenders on here, Whitten is very protected and liked by that group.

Ask the same of many of the players still here or who have left many early, and the droves of fans that have either stayed away, or just don’t care anymore, and I think you would find a different opinion.

58/59 out of 60 in Year 4 is brutal.

Let us just say they are 59 and Alaska is 60. The series will be more fun to see who fought it out at the very end to claim worse team in the nation .

It’s worth staying up late and tuning into Bill Crawford for those ones.

Wonder if Whitten’s contract extension has performance bonuses regarding avoiding the basement of college hockey?

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Hate to sound like a broken record but honestly people what are the solutions (if any) to the current Laker woes? Who here really believes that making a coaching change at this time will result in a noticeable difference next season, or the season after that? We've had now had 4 coaches since J.J. and the glory years and I simply cannot accept that everyone of those four was somehow less than a D-1 caliber coach. Coaching can be a factor to some extent but the Laker's problems go well beyond coaching. Until those problems are acknowledged and addressed, as Rapids constantly says, why would we expect anything different????????

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

I am not for a coaching change but the coaching staff needs to examine themselves and find out why their coaching methods are not working. After four years and the best they can put out on the ice is the 59th worse team in the nation . Maybe it is not the players who lack talent but a coaching staff that doesn't get players to the next level. Whitten needs to look at his staff as hard as he does the players and maybe it is time to make adjustments in the way they play . The coaches can be just as much to blame as players who lack the talent to play the game. A coach who can't fix his own short comings is not what you want .

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Just in case anyone missed it:

The Lakers just shut out the Bemidji State Beavers.

I repeat:

The Lakers just shut out the Bemidji State Beavers.

That is all.

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

Good solid road win. They played good D, got good goaltending, and put a couple past Bitzer. It would be nice if they can compete hard again tonight and give themselves a chance at another W.

That’s the team some say has quit on the coach, won’t play for him, right. The team who’s room is in complete disarray, right?

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

It is good they won and good to see a shut out . The game they played last night needed to be the games they played every night and now just maybe they found out what needs to be done every time they take to the ice .

Re: LSSU Lakers Hockey: 2017-18

On the Laker Hockey Show this week, Damon mentioned that we have received a new verbal commitment. I haven't heard a name yet or position or what season, but I think it's probably a younger guy for 2-3 seasons (or more) out.
