LSSU Lakers 2024-25

MSU’s coach Nightingale had some nice things to say in the Lansing State Journal about growing up watching Laker hockey and how it influenced him.

"We have a ton of respect for Lake State and their program and we know that coaching staff is going to have those guys ready to go, but we're excited about going on the road," Nightingale said. "It's a special place there. Watching that program is where my brothers and I really fell in love with college hockey. They really had it going back then. Those were the formative years in developing our passion for hockey and the desire to play college hockey."

Good showing on Friday. If the Lakers could have capitalized on the major or any of the minor penalties really, they would have split the series.

Also side note, sorry to hear about Jeff Jackson’s vision problems being why he is retiring. I didn’t know about that until Bill Crawford mentioned that on the air.

Nice couple of wins this weekend, even though they were just exhibition games. Always hard to know what kind of game to expect from the NDTP team. Disappointing that we're already dealing with some injuries this early in the season.

Important win last night for the Lakers to start conference play. Too often the past couple of seasons they've fallen behind early in games and have struggled playing catch up. Nice to see them score first for a change.

It's early but it's nice to be at the top of the CCHA standings with a 5-1 start in CCHA play.

Yep, they've been able to play through/around the numerous injuries very well. They have been really thin in net the past month. If Applebee got injured, they'd really be in trouble. Bemidji will be a tough series, even if everyone was healthy on the Lakers, which they're not.

Ron Rolston's 1994 NCAA Champions ring is listed on eBay for $2,000. I've never seen the rings before. I like the 3 diamonds in the anchor for the 3 NCAA titles.

Any Laker fans know if Connor Milburn is healthy enough to play this weekend at Augustana? He's been out quite a while.

Seeing 3 Lakers in the portal currently.

Hesse is no surprise really with Applebee taking the vast majority of minutes. Cole Craft did not record any playing time/accumulate any stats this season. Don't know if he was just a scratch all season or injured or what. The 3rd one listed is another goaltender, Nikita Volski. He is listed on the roster on the LSSU website but no photo and no bio or details. From what I can find, he was listed as a 2025-2026 recruit so maybe enrolled this year but was not active.

Lakers have not picked up anyone from the portal yet though it is still early and I am only seeing 16 players with new teams out of the 228 total in the portal.

Tech has 6 players in the portal. NMU has 11.

Lakers with 3 announced signings today. A 20 year old forward, Calem Mangone, from the Canadian Soo. A 21 year old goalie, Andrew Oke, from Shelby Township, Michigan. Both played for the Saginaw Spirit. And also 22 year old defenseman, Tyson Galloway, from Kamloops, British Columbia who played for the University of Calgary and the Calgary Hitmen.

Hesse and Craft are both seniors, looking to go somewhere as grad transfers. Hesse was red shirted as a freshman and Craft did not play this year because of a serious illness. Volski was brought in at the Christmas break, because of injuries to Hesse and Riley. And, yes, they have picked up a player out of the portal, Blake Dangos a D man from AIC.

Do not over book on CHL players you will be surprised. Most of the CHL players have inflated numbers as they only allow 3 overages per team and these players are playing mostly against 16-17 year olds.

LSSU announced they got Ryan Beck out of the transfer portal from Colorado College. He's a 22-year-old forward from Linden, Michigan and played 3 seasons at CC.

Looks like LSSU is using some of that cash infusion to hire an Assistant Athletic Director / General Manager for hockey
