LSSU Lakers 2023-24

It will be a sold out crowd in East Lansing for the Lakers game on Saturday. Former Laker Adam Nightingale has brought a lot of life back to MSU hockey. The Spartans will be dedicating their rink to the legendary Ron Mason. Lots of LSSU-MSU connections.

We’re very excited in East Lansing. I’m also excited to see those Laker sweaters back in Munn. I’d love to see LSSU revive their program and have some success like WMU and BG have done in recent years.

I watched the game. Some thoughts: nice to see Ron Mason Rink on the ice at Munn and cool to see his family drop the first puck on the broadcast. An errant whistle by the linesman cost the Lakers a goal. That sucked. The Lakers also can't afford to give MSU a 5x3. That was costly. Despite the score, I don't think the Lakers played too badly though. It was good to see the Lakers get a lot of shots on goal.

I was surprised to learn the Lakers have the #14 recruiting class this year. The BTN+ broadcast really emphasized that. It'll be nice to see the freshmen progress throughout the year.

Sounded like a little better effort Sunday. Basically a one goal game (plus the empty netter). I've always felt that a key to winning on the road is scoring first. The Lakers didn't do that in either game but at least they didn't fall behind 3-0 on Sunday like they did on Saturday.

Personally, I think the Lakers played better on Saturday. If the linesman didn't blow that call dead for no apparent reason, the Lakers could have had 3 goals and it could have been tied at 3 entering the 3rd. In the third, the Lakers were pressing to make up the goal deficit and MSU capitalized.

On Sunday, the Lakers got outshot really badly for much of the game. Shots were 35-12 entering the 3rd period. MSU failed to convert on some opportunities, and LSSU had some fortunate goaltending.

Lakers seemed to play well offensively last night. Hope to see them get back to .500 tonight. Let’s hope this freshman class stays together and doesn’t hop in the portal.

Big Road win for the Lakers tonight. Hopefully this group and continue to learn how to win and make some noise later in the season.

Yes, hopefully they can follow up with another win tonight. It would certainly be nice if they could start scoring the first goal of a game for a change.

Big Sweep headed into conference play! Hopefully they can do some damage this season. That Anchorage loss at home could come back to bite them if they continue to win.

The Lakers need to get back on track this weekend, and some better balanced scoring would certainly make that task easier.

Nice win against Ferris Saturday evening. And we're now getting more secondary scoring, with freshmen chipping in quite a bit, and that's a big plus. Hopefully we'll see a carryover of this at the holiday tournament.

What is going on with Wescott? Looking at box scores and what not he was on fire for a while and even leading and/or tied for national lead in goals and/or points. He was at 12 goals, 10 assists through Nov 18 (12 games). Since then, 1 assist in 7 games. Did he sit some games or have an injury? Or are teams focusing on shutting him down?

He doesn't get to play against BG every week...
