LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Correct. In order for damon to deploy his proven method of coaching he must cleanse the bench of the "rocks". Ncaa frowns upon cutting incoming seniors. Cleansing the sophomore lads allows for the fresh start he needs to focus on his recruits. 2015-16 we will make it to the final 8... Damon must succeed or "hello D3". The gravel remaining may be plucking splinters from the bench. In any case those that got cut are skilled good young men-very sad for them but such is life. Wonder what the blue liners and alumni think? But who cares. We have damon and he "roques"

Wow. Whitten and Co. must be doing something right to be enticing Golden Gopher caliber recruits...

Agree. Mitch Hults should be able to provide some offensive help for the Lakers and his younger brother Cole is regarded as a very good defensive prospect.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

How often do they discuss rules changes? I assume rules interpretations can be discussed every year?

I think they are discussed, but new rules are implemented every other year.

I imagine the NCAA tournament format was a major discussion point.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Sorry if already discussed, but any idea of who else will be in the Ice Breaker Tournament? I'd love for the Lakers to build off of last year and return home with another trophy.

Baby steps and tastes of winning is what this program needs as it moves forward, and I remain encouraged about what Whitten is building there. Hopefully, he can get at least a dozen wins in Year 2 with that schedule and then set up nicely for his third year when I think the Lakers can finally make some noise again.

Other than the Lakers and Maine, the additional schools haven't been announced yet. A lot of schools are coming out with their schedules this week, so we may find out the other schools fairly soon.

I'm still not over the 1993 loss to Maine. Jim Montgomery haunts me to this day.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

The other Icebreaker teams from what I heard are Michigan State and North Dakota.

Definitely a beter schedule than last season's. Home games are better spread out but kind of a bummer that there's no Canadian exhibtion game again this season.

Looks like I'll be making road trips to Northern, Michigan State, Bowling Green, Bemidji (first time ever) and Ferris State.

It would have been nice to have the video replay capabilities that exist today for that game. Sean Tallaire is absolutely convinced he scored the tying goal in the final minute. Video replay at the time was inconclusive. And if I remember correctly, one of Maines 3rd period goals by Montgomery deflected in off someone (may have been a Laker?) a ways out from the Laker net. Maine was obviously a great team that season but they had some puck luck that day.

I might go to Bemidji, but will see as it gets closer.

If anyone plans to go to Michigan Tech, I would recommend booking a hotel room very early. I believe that is Michigan Tech's winter carnival weekend. Rooms are usually very tough to get during carnival.

It sure would have. I was there and still have my vhs tape of the game I taped off ESPN. When Sean had the puck on his stick in front of the net and patiently waited for the Dman man to move by he shot...........and if you put the tape on slo-mo you can see the puck move click by click until it is right in front of the crossbar.............then click, it disappears. Three more clicks and it re-appears. It was in the net!

I was sitting at the opposite end and I also remember late in the 2nd period in front of us when John Hendry was wide open in front of the Maine net and the puck got lost in his skates. That would have made it 5-2 after 2, Maine switched goalies to Garth Snow and Montgomery had a great 3rd period.

If that's the case, the Icebreaker will be a tough early test for the Lakers. But it's non-conference and a good way to get all the freshmen forwards some action.

Non-conference games are just as important as conference games with the power rankings . There are no more games that can be seen as warm ups for conference play. Every win means something in the power rankings and in the end ,that decides who goes on and who doesn't.
