LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

There was high praises from the staff on Globke's leadership attributes last year. There was some talk that he could have been captain last year if it wasn't for the some of the great seniors we had. I'd be shocked to see Perfetto or Ciotti become captain for any reason other than being seniors.

Naming a Sophomore captain would be a bold move, but if he is a natural leader it could work, you'd have to be a bit concerned about alienating the senior class with a move like that, but again if he is a natural leader and can get them to buy in, it could turn out to be a positive move.

Love the Aubry hire, he has been a part of a successful program the last few years, and his goaltending expertise will be vital as we are starting from scratch at that position. With Aubry handling the goalies and defensive coordinator duties, Metro as offensive coordinator, and Whitten's experience as a special teams specialist (no pun intended), every coach has clearly defined areas that they will be heading up, now obviously I'm sure all will have input on all areas (especially Whitten being the HC) but I like the structure that has been set forth.

Thats what I like to read. It took some years but we finally have a great foundation to build on. All three coaches graduated from other schools and bring in new ideas. A clean slate that I wanted to see. Now let's go forward.

Quite possibly the best post you've ever made. Forget to logout of "Pink Pony" username and login with your real one?

He's probably trying to stay in the good graces of the Board by occasionally making a post that makes at least some sense.

How was the Blueliner golf outing? Please don't quote Pink Pony. You're defeating the "ignore function." :)

I find Damon Whitten to be a unique choice for coach. I believe he was being groomed for this job with the Lakers. He was originally recruited to play in Sault. He choose to walk on at MSU and played for former coach Ron Mason for four seasons. After his pro career he became valuable in Rick Comleys coaching staff. By spending his time at MTU he got some training from one of the greatest college hockey minds Coach Pearson.

I believe Damon is the best fit to bring the Lakers to the way they use to be when Frank and Jeff coached LSSU. I believe is going to change the culture to what it once was is in the 1990's. The right formula is in place and the WCHA is going to look a lot different next season as the Lakers will be hosting a home play off next season.

Coach Whitten is a win-win choice. People in Soo have to rally around this coach and buy season tickets now.

Dommett and Drapluk are also possibilities.

I agree Bill, they should be in the mix. As far as Globke I would be really suprised if he were to be named Captain in his sophmore season but who knows.

I see former Laker assistant Dave Berard got the Holy Cross job .

The weather turned out to be great on Saturday. We were down on the number of golfers, but we expected that as the trend this summer is most golf outings are either flat or down on numbers. Just too many golf outings have saturated the market. Had some great auction items as well. Should have the final numbers by the next Blueliner board meeting.

On a separate note, we are always looking for ideas on how to make the Blueliners better. Is there anything we can do during game days/weekends to enhance Blueliner member's experience? If you have idea's feel free to send them my way or send a message to the Blueliner's Facebook Page.

They did finally!
http://www.lssulakers.com/sports/m-hockey/2014-15/schedule

No series with Notre Dame or Michigan listed. Also no exhibition games listed as well but I think they might be added at some point.

EDIT: The schedule incorrectly lists January 16-17 as Bowling Green State. It is supposed to be Bemidji State.

I wonder if games will be added at a later date to fill in the 4 remaining non-conference games. I also wonder if things are so bad financially, that it is cheaper for them to forgo the remaining 4 non-conference games with bye weeks.

I'm guessing Whitten is not a fan of the 2 for 1 deals that Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame offered us. Perhaps he didn't want to do them unlike Roque and instead try and get more home games with other NC teams. Unfortunately for this season, it was probably too late to try and get NC games at home.

Hopefully they can fill in a couple of the bye weeks some home exhibition games.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

They haven't done a press release yet announcing the schedule. Perhaps this is just a preliminary schedule and they are still trying to find another non-conference opponent to play, preferably at home. Excluding exhibition games, we only played 36 games this past season.
