LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Michigan State schedule came out today and we don' play the Spartans this year. We must play them next year. Perhaps we play the Wolverines this season? More than likely we'll play at Notre Dame October 17-18.

Could be. I am pretty positive on a coaches show that the Lakers had an agreement to play both Michigan and Michigan State again in the future. I thought they said MSU was this year, but guess I heard incorrectly. Michigan currently does not have any games scheduled November 7th and 8th, so the Lakers could play Michigan that weekend.

I guess I don't understand why people are trying to pin the blame on Niels-Erik. He was a good student, got a degree in Engineering and was a very nice and respectable young man. He's also signed on to play professionally in Europe which I would say is a success. To sit here and blame Metro for bringing Niels to SSM is in my opinion asinine, as he was the exact kind of person that I enjoyed sharing a campus with. Sure he had a tough go at it but it is my belief (without a clear-cut explanation) that Roque made it a very tough 4 years for a great kid. He did well in class and persevered through a lot and was never a bother when I would see him in the bars on the weekends. At least he wasn't like some of the players who would go out and act like they owned the city after they just got swept at home and I respect him for that.
I had to say this because I hate this notion that having brought in Ravn was a travesty. He was good kid and I am sure would have been a hell of a player if given the proper opportunities.
Having been at the banquet and listening to all the great seniors who thanked Metro in their farewell speeches, I look forward to the talent he will bring to the program. I also look at the improvements that his French team made and see a guy who will be an asset with the x's and o's.
Also, if Metro was responsible for Campbell, isn't it fair to assume that he had a pretty solid hand in recruiting Kapalka (one of the best Laker netminders in the program's history)?

Roque had said they had an upcoming deal with Michigan, two trips to Ann Arbor with UM making one trip to LSSU and no money changing hands. With him gone, not sure if that agreement will be carried out.

Kapalka was all right. But not even close to a top 5 goalie in Laker history. Also the schedule seems to be a big mess. They seemed to have not thought about the schedule when they released Roque. Dunbar forgot or had no clue how incomplete the schedule was and what needed to be done.

No one's blaming Ravn. There was a discussion about Metro having a reputation as a good recruiter, and michiganmidge brought Ravn into the discussion, saying he was solely Metro's recruit in an effort to discredit the notion that Metro has a good eye for talent. Since Ravn was never given much of an opportunity to play while with the Lakers, it's difficult to say how good he is. Her contention that Ravn was a Metro recruit has since been shown to be false. I think what you've said about Ravn is pretty much on the money; we just don't know how good of a goalie he might be since he wasn't given a chance by Roque.

Maybe he should have hit the weights a little harder. I heard this was a problem area.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Sounds like a good choice .
Since Aubry is a former goalie, his selection also shores up the goalie coach function. We've had Don Muio and Terry Barbeau helping out in that role off and on (voluntary basis) for quite a few years, but now part of the coaching staff can presumably do that.

We are only a few days away from the Soo Blue Liners Golf Outing on Saturday, June 21, at The Crossings in Sault Ste. Marie. Get those 3-person teams together and join us for some great golf, food, and prizes! All proceeds go to support hockey student-athletes at LSSU!

The weather is not looking good though.

Edit: Now it's looking good. Make up your mind mother nature.

It looks like they moved the rain forecast to Sunday. Looking like it will be a very nice day! At least right now, anyway

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Any guesses on who the captain might be this season?

Just a guess but I think it could be Perfetto or Ciotti. Spratte has the makings of a good Captain but he just didn't play much last season. It's hard to say with a whole new coaching staff.

Perfetto or Ciotti are my guesses too. I guess we'll find out in 3 1/2 months when the season starts or maybe sooner.

There was high praises from the staff on Globke's leadership attributes last year. There was some talk that he could have been captain last year if it wasn't for the some of the great seniors we had. I'd be shocked to see Perfetto or Ciotti become captain for any reason other than being seniors.
