LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Was anyone at the the Laker Classic at Boyne? Word is at least one asst. was to be named today or tomorrow.
The Assistant Coach job was posted on the LSSU Employment web site a couple of weeks ago and closed on May 30. Damon Whitten has had a little time now to look over the applicants, so my guess is we'll hear something this week or next.

The Assistant coaching jobs have been filled. Just waiting on the press release from the University

Rich Metro is one.
That's pretty funny. If it wasn't so far fetched one could almost see it happening based on how this summer unfolded.
Will be interesting to see the type of coachea we actually get.

Why is it so funny? From what I heard, Metro recruited some of the better players the Lakers have had in recent years. If he's got a good eye for talent, isn't that one of the prime things you're looking for in an assistant?

Sorry, thought someone was trying to be funny.

Bill, what are your thoughts on the second assistant coach? I think he will defiantly help with our goaltenders.

I've heard a rumor about where he may be coming from, but not who he is or what his strengths are, so I haven't formed any opinions yet. I'm not even sure if a second guy has been selected by Whitten yet. Have you heard something to that effect?

By the way, Rich Metro has officially been named as an assistant coach for the Lakers:

Second assistant coach to be named later.

Maybe it is funny . Metro may have helped recruit a few of the better players but at the same time he may have helped recruit many of the other players who did very little for the team. All we do know is that while Metro was there , the team was not what you would call a winning team on it's way to making a big turn around. If you are going to credit the guy for recruiting some of the better players , at least realize he probably also recruited the players who did very little for the team.

Did Metro tear up the league in France he was coach of ?

He has a reputation as having a good eye for talent. As for the rest, he's being hired as an assistant coach not the head coach. If he had been hired as the head coach, I could understand your concern more since his resume isn't yet strong enough to support that.

Rich was responsible for recruiting many of the better players here in recent years. He also is a very good communicator with the players. It's also good to have someone provide some continuity for the program which will be very helpful for the new coach. This is a good pick.

Rich Metro is a mirror image of Damon Whitten. Great work ethic and well respected. I hope the second AC isn't a fly by night coach.
No more former HS coaches.

See you at the golf course.

That is a great point. Other wise it would have only been that Umpa-Lumpa looking equipment guy who new the ends and outs of the program.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

The definition of lunacy is: Doing the same thing and expecting change. Bargain bin Head Coach, recycled bargain bin assistant. Are we really moving the program forward? If you treat it and resource it like a bottom team, don't expect a top finish. This is not an upward move. It's a lateral move. I want this program to improve. I want it to do well. I wish the administration would see it that way and quit hoping they can fix these gunshot wounds our program has suffered with duck tape and Popsicle sticks!

What would you do differently if you were in charge?
