I heard something like the Lakers schedule has only 14 home games with 22 on the road. Has anyone have an idea?

I think it's been a few weeks since Nonis's junior team or league did a press release on him coming to play for us this fall. I figured the LSSU athletic department would post an article on their website as well by now. Maybe I'm forgetting something.

Are you sure you've got the right guy? The only Nick Nonis that I found info on (and he is a D-man) played for a prep school in Massachusetts this past season and is scheduled to play for Powell River (BCHL) this coming season. He has verbally committed to UNH for either 2015 or 2016. Our latest D-man recruit that I know of is Aidan Wright, who did play for Powell River this past season. Once recruiting for this coming season is done, I expect we'll see another press release from school with the names of all the remaining recruits (Wright, Defiel, and a couple of more guys).

Damon came from Tech, which has been carrying several more than that and which also has had to try and juggle recruits, but that may very well be more of a Mel Pearson philosophy. True, they'll probably bring in another goalie but that may depend on whether they can find a guy with decent junior stats to walk on. We actually had another goalie in school this past year who practiced with the team the latter part of the season, and who could be the #3 goalie for next season if they can't find someone else they are happy with on short notice. Roque was talking up Nathan Harris on some of the hockey shows this past season as a really good skater who he expected to play a bigger role next season (and probably give him scholarship money). Whether Whitten will have the same opinion on Harris, I don't know. Harris is still a question mark. He needs to bulk up and get stronger, plus the jury is still out on whether he will come back from his concussion problem he had in Juniors. And there are those who feel Pete Spratte will see more playing time on D next season as well.

There was a post on Facebook about the player I'm talking about, but now it comes up as a dead link. Perhaps it was bad information. Anyways, thanks for clearing things up Bill.

Was anyone at the the Laker Classic at Boyne? Word is at least one asst. was to be named today or tomorrow.

The 32nd Annual Soo Blueliners 3-person Golf Scramble is coming up on Saturday, June 21. Shotgun start at 9am with dinner/prizes/auction to follow. Damon will attract many good ACs. A good USHL recruiter and good BCJHL recruiter would be nice.
Attracting older freshman that were overlooked by the big schools is key. A kid with at least three years experience is a good trait kid to bring in the Soo. Damian's former bosses are scouts for NHL teams. So if could use his networking to bring in some great overlooked kids who want to get an education. The key for Coach Whitten is to keep kids wanting to stay and play for the duration of the four years and have stability that was lacked by the previous coach. If we can get a recruit to stay longer the Lakers program will succeed in long run. Stability of the players, older mature kids with many years of junior experience and kids that want to win is needed.

Coach Whitten will change the culture at LSSU. I hope to touch base with him at the golf outing. Damon has lots of potential to change what was broken from Roque, Frankie, and Steve.
