Spin it anyway you want, but I think you were deliberately and unfairly slanting your argument to try and put Damon Whitten in a bad light. We get the fact that you don't approve of Whitten being selected as coach. How about we leave it at that? The job is his. Let's see what he can do with it.Bill, You’ve missed my point but I see yours. Not being from SSM you haven’t had the opportunity to take this all in. Most people on this thread know each other personally so this is more debate amongst locals with the exception of the few that not many know personally such as Bill.
I guess it should be kept in perspective that the thread is open to outside people. My last two posts regarding Damon Whitten are intended as conversation with locals and were in response to a post that referenced previous Laker Coaches without comparing the record of our new coach. That post was deleted and only my post remained. That has happened to me a couple times and it does look out of place.
With that said, I personally do think that Joey Shawhan would have been a great selection but as I’ve said earlier, Ron Fogarty of Adrian College would have been my first choice. His record speaks for itself.
I have deleted my previous two posts as they make no sense by themselves.
And then there is Neil Diamond. God bless Neil Diamond.
The people I've talked to aren't really judging the program one way or another, they just want to know who this Whitten guy is, which is expected, I would think.
Most people will give him a chance. If he puts a good product on the ice people will come back.
I don't believe for a second that Damon was pre-selected for the position. A few people may think that way. Comley being on the committee gave them someone to blame for "their" guy not getting the job.I think what bothered people about picking Damon as the new coach was as soon as many heard Comely was on the search committee and he and Damon worked together , the choice was already made . I don't think Damon was the most qualified as so many saw it and that got to people as well .

1 What is Damon Whittens reported salary?
Couldn't afford a salary, so he is getting 14.95/hr. He is limited to working 40 hrs/wk
2. How much funds are available to Assistant Coaches?
No funds per se, but they do get a free membership to Tanglewood Golf, and McDonald's cut a deal where they only need four stickers, not the prerequisite five, for a free McCaffe drink.
3. Is the renovation ever going to take place?
It already did. Most historians date it between the 14th and 17th centuries, and the ...
...wait
4 Have the donations picked up since Jim Roque has been let go?
Last week they took in $16, plus $2.20 in empties. How much of that increase can be attributed directly to Roque's dismissal is up for discussion.
I kid because I care. I do not know the answers to any of your questions.

Tim Christian is out.
Source?
Wait and see
Tim Christian is out.
An argument without an argument.I will say it again, if you are not from SSM then you really don’t know what is going on here.
Oh I have no doubt a few people in the Soo may believe that. What I tend to doubt is that the majority feel that way.Bill, your posts indicate that you feel the success of Laker Hockey is even a thought to the people of SSM. There are very few who even care about the program. Why do you think Jim Roque stayed on for so long? It didn’t matter to anyone if he was here or not. To locals, Laker hockey is expensive and political. When students are not in town attendance is comparable to the Eagles and Sault High.
Paul is a big supporter of Laker hockey and has a vested interest but as he said a few posts back, the people he talks to don’t really care who the coach is. More accurately Paul, they don’t care about Laker Hockey period.
To comment on your post, Bill. It’s not that me or Perky or SM2PK or anyone else’s candidate didn’t get selected. It’s that an opportunity to create even a little interest in the program was wasted. Paul is a supporter and as he put it, “if the Lakers win, people will come back”. By hiring someone such as Fogarty or yes Shawhan it would have created at least a little excitement in the program and probably showed immediately in revenue.
Finally, do people think Damon Whitten is coach at LSSU without Rick Comley? Not a chance but you are wrong to suggest people “blame” Rick Comley or to imply people even care if a committee selected the coach or the AD appointed one. Very few know or care who Damon Whitten or Rick Comley or Ron Mason are.
What people do know is that the coach that was hired may have been the least qualified and no-one is upset about that, it simply makes it that much more difficult to create needed excitement in the program.
There were six people that I counted outside the team at the press conference for the new coach at LSSU. The only question asked by one of the six was the status of the current assistants. There was absolutely no interest from the community in this hire. I think a huge opportunity was missed to hire someone that would generate excitement. It has nothing to do with “spin” Bill. It has to do with selling tickets, gaining support from the local community and donations from a rejuvenated alumni base.
I don't think it's too surprising, if true. Any new coach, especially one from outside the "Laker Family", was likely going to want to hire his own assistants. Dunbar may have discussed with the guys being interviewed the possibility of keeping Tim on staff, but ultimately it would be up to the coach to make that decision.Tomorrow? Next week? We'll see I guess, but I'm surprised (but not shocked) Christian is out.
I think Tim wanted to stay on as an assistant coach, but given the nature of the business he would have been smart to put some feelers out on other options (e.g. head coach at the Junior level, or assistant at another college) while awaiting a decision on his future with the Lakers. Whether he has a good lead on another job, I don't know. And we still need confirmation that he won't be back with the Lakers. Are you sure about this? What about Doug LaPrade?
If true and before this starts to get discussed did Tim Christian decide not to return or was he let go? Maybe he got has got another job.
