LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

The big question is, "will they support it like. D-1 winner or will they fund it like an 8th or 9th place team?"

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

(I don't think Christian and Metro had meet and greet sessions with faculty and staff since they were already known by the locals.)

My gut feeling is that they likely will go with someone from outside, which would rule out Christian and Metro. Then it probably depends upon which of the other three guys sold themselves the best during interviews and meet and greet. All three of those guys have pretty good qualifications. Since I don't have the benefit of knowing that (sales job) for sure, my guess is that Fogarty or perhaps even Whitten has the best shot at the job. Barr might be too much of an unknown quantity unless he was really convincing in his interview.

I would agree, if the Lakers are looking at a 180 turn around the whole staff should be new.

So Bill, since you seem to be in the know, will the Lakers have 2 FULL TIME assistants for the new coach? And a paid video guy?

All I've heard is that the new coach will make more than Roque did. I didn't hear how much more, or anything about assistants.

Fogarty would my choice out of the finalist that are known at this time.

As far as so many hockey players not going to the athletic banquet is not that big of a deal to me. I am curious though as to which two were the ones that attended it?

There were two freshmen in attendance at the banquet. One because he was getting an award. The rest of the team was seen eating downstairs in the Galley - in the same building at the same time as the banquet!

I wonder where the money will come from? These enrollment documents -found on LSSU website - show declining enrollment. All recent press releases say enrollment is at 3,000, but this isn't true. These enrollment sheets also include Petoskey and Escanaba students in the total, plus double majors are counted twice!

When the majority of your student base is CJ and Fire Science, you will never have wealthy alum with great ability to give back! Lake State has 1,900 students on the Sault campus this current year. The spike you see in 2011 was statewide for all universities because of the recession and funding made available for the unemployed to go back to school.

I still think ignoring Shawhan will end up being a Borek moment . Go with a guy who never should have been made head coach and ignore others that should .

sm2pk i think you are being a little unfair, Shawhan may very well have been a good choice and been very successful but that doesn't mean that some of the other candidates wouldn't be successful also.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

That's a tough question since we don't have the benefit of hearing what these guys said in their interviews or the meet and greet sessions with faculty/staff. So my answer is going to be geared more towards what I think might happen rather than who I think they should go with. (I don't think Christian and Metro had meet and greet sessions with faculty and staff since they were already known by the locals.)

So that is what I think. Others might have differing opinions. If there are more interviews, then I would have to reassess. And I have no idea of what Kris Dunbar and Tony McLain are thinking about these candidates, so their thinking may or may not be in line with my thinking.

Fair assessment, I do hope they go with an outside hire and based on the 3 outside candidates that we know of I am pretty satisfied with the quality of candidates we drew as applicants, I think all have exciting possibilities based on their resumes.

I think at this stage where the program is ,head coaching with success is what the Lakers need to be interviewing as well.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Damon Whitten has a real shot.
He also has been at two schools similar to LSSU trying to break through.
Who could he bring as assistants, my thought is some former MSU teammates?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

I'm guessing that part of the deal will be to keep the same assistants..........certainly at least one. It appears that the new coach will be paid more than JR and two new assistants might be pushing the budget. I remember that many CCHA assistants made near or close to JR. Not sure about the new WCHA, though.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off-season thread (part 2)

Just want to point out that only seniors and award winners are invited to the banquet. Are people seriously concerned about the athletic banquet? 2 seniors attended and the freshman who won an award attended. Multiple other seniors are not on campus due to professional contracts.

Also, there were many athletes that have class and were unable to attend. I don't think a few of the seniors not attending is in anyway a "protest".

Move on

True but Fogarty has both the head coaching experience and the success...I'm really hoping he is offered and accepts the position..

Some Roque apologists are still lurking but believe me, we've all moved on (the real fans anyway).
