Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I am pulling for Ferris and Bowling Green in the play-offs now . Those two teams will be with us in the WCHA and hope they beat the teams that destroyed the CCHA by jumping . Also for Bowling Green for showing Coach Roque he needs to really change his coaching style or continue bottom dwelling into the new league.

Well Ferris State did win and two of the Butthurt Hockey Conference members that jumped lost tonight as well.

http://thecanuckway.com/2013/03/15/canucks-interested-in-college-free-agent-kellan-lain/

This article posted around 5 pm today states the Canucks, Red Wings, Coyotes, and Ducks are among the teams after Kellan Lain and TSN's Bob McKenzie says he should be one of the first college free agents to sign and expects it to come in the next 48 hours. Someone said that Lain was rumored to have left campus this morning but it appears he hasn't quite signed as of late this afternoon. It always sucks to lose talent early but we can add Lain to the list of recent Lakers who have ended up being highly sought after, hopefully our continued production of pro prospects will catch the attention of potential recruits out there and help them come to the realization that you don't have to play for a major college hockey power just to get pro scouts looking at you. Best of luck to Kellain Lain in the future!

Excellent post and I sure hope it's true! Best of luck to Lain!

Thank you.
I would actually like to find the photograph in a reasonable size. I don't understand why they don't have that on the roster page.

Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson...

Best of luck to Kellan Lain, who signed win VAN today!

I wish nothing but the best for the guys. Any ideas were Monardo and MacPharland are heading?

Boy with all these guys moving on to the next level you would think the Lakers really cleaned up in the CCHA. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Both are likely to wind up at the ECHL level, although they may get a cup of coffee in the AHL on a PTO.

Why do players leave Lake State and score with the teams they go to ?

Well it certainly ain't Jim Roques fault. He does the best he can with a small budget, unfair advantage with the larger schools the only ones that can win anymore, the horrible refs in the CCHA, and the bad breaks his team gets every season. I am sure I left out a lot of the excuses, but I know a lot of you will pick up on that, if not I'll call the AD.

Don't pay any attention to the fact that a lot of players start well, trail off while they are here, then pick up again, has nothing to do with this coach and his system. Once that Norris Center project gets off the ground, and LSSU get into a new league, THAT is when things start to turn around in the 9th season under this head coach.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I swear to god I hope the beating that Bowling Green gave the team and the coaching staff makes Roque rethink everything he does with the team. If the humiliation the Laker coaching staff received from Bowling Green doesn't get them to rethink everything from practices to cardio work to strength building to consistency on the ice.....nothing will.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Congrats to Domenic Monardo on signing with the Gwinnette Gladiators of the ECHL!
Pretty late in the ECHL season so it doesn't look like Monardo's and McParland's teams will be playing each other.

We're only a few weeks away from the Spring singing period, so the name of the AJHL recruit may not get officially announced before then. Or it still could pop up any day; who knows.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I think it would be foolish to not redshirt a goalie next year. The following year will be Roques contract year with freshman netminders.

Plain and simple: The Lakers cannot afford to change coaches. First, they would have to buy out Coach Roque's current contract (about $170,000ish if 2 years remain, more if it was a 5 year) and then go after a new coach for most likely more money than is currently paid. We can keep discussing this, but it is not going to happen. Lake State has allocated all of the money to the hockey program it is going to for now. If it's the same in 2 years, bye bye coach Roque. But for now we will keep the status quo.

It was mentioned here plus I asked someone I assume knows the contract length and he told me he thought two years remain on Roques contact.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I believe all coaches at LSSU get the same deal. They get the initial 3-4-5 year deal, then they are year to year. Coach Roque has no multi year deal. Ask someone in the know. It is a fact.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I have a question. Since she became Athletic Director, has Kris Dunbar fired (or to put it nicely, failed to renew the contract of) any coach in any sport? I know there have been a number of coaching changes in different sports during her tenure as AD, but am wondering if it was just a matter of former coaches moving on to other opportunities, or if they were fired for one reason or another. Just curious.
