Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I can understand playing both in the regular season and even in the playoffs but coming off a shut out in the playoffs I dont see why he would rotate.

I thought Kapalka would start on Saturday as well, but as Bill said Roque has rotated all year.

As others have said, there is nothing to be optimistic about for next year.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Can anyone tell me what Roque meant after the Lakers lost in Bowling Green last month that Roque said his team played nice and he was happy they played nice. Not upset they lost but happy they played nice..LOL

I dont think i have ever seen a goalie sat after a shutout in the playoffs especially in a best of 3 series. Being a BG Fan(along with ohio state) after i saw that result on Friday i thought BG had no chance to win this series because i was certain Kapalka would start again on Saturday

I'm not sure it would have mattered. BG played with a lot of energy Saturday and Sunday and LSSU came out flat both nights.

One strange thing as well, Murdock got the shutout at Northern last Saturday to clinch home ice for the Lakers.

Roque has been complaining all year that neither goalie has won the starting job. I realize he did not play well last night, but I did not get why Murdock did not start out the series in net. If getting a shutout on the road to earn home ice does not win the full time starting goalie job, then what would it take?

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

It is much easier, as a fan, to take losses when expectations are low. This year the Lakers teased us with some inspired play and had many of us believing they had a chance at making it to the Joe and perhaps even a NCAA selection but here we are, faced with the same old results. There is no question that there must be a whole sale change within the Laker coaching staff and I do not think the school can take fans and their support for granted any longer.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Wow tonight was Ugly with a capital U. I think Roque will be given two years in the nWCHA to get the Lakers to the top of the league. If not, then a change should be made, but only if the school can shell out money for a top notch coach.

I would agree with you here.

The Lakers will be lucky to finish 8th in the WCHA next year. Look at the team and how bad they were this second half . It is the same second half team coming back next year with a roster full of no play makers. Campbell sure came back with a bang in the 9 games he played. Campbell netted zero goals and to think that will change come the fall is believing on Santa Claus. My guess is Marble gave up on the Lakers and wants to play elsewhere. Roque and his coaching staff were out coached by the Bowling Greens coaching staff. The Lakers couldn't figure Bowling Green out for a second tonight and last night.

Most on here wanted Borek gone after his fourth year and why,the writing was on the wall where the team was going with his talents and the writing is on the wall with Roque's coaching abilities. What are you all hoping for ? A much weaker league that will give the Lakers a shot at home ice for the playoffs ? This Laker team isn't very good and the coaching isn't improving anyones game . This team as it stands now will be selected to finish in the bottom half of the league if not in 9th or 10th place next year.

Also embarrassing is the attendance. 1,084? Imagine if the students were on Spring Break? The attendance would of been something like 700-900.

Hopefully this will be the last game that Roque coaches at Lake Superior. Last season he said numerous times that this years team should have a chance to get to the NCAA tournament, and instead they make a first round exit.

I agree he and his staff need to go. Uninspired hockey in consecutive nights in the playoffs is just to much. Inconsistency is Roque's stamp on the program

Someone would want the job even if for a stepping stone.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

As a Laker fan, you just gotta circle da wagon's and crank up the spin machine reeeeeeeal tight............OK......ummmmm........er.......ah - well, at leastbthe lack of butts in the stands means than most Laker fans didn't see this debacle........ahhhhhh, um, er...........that's about all I can come up with.

The way this season came to such a drastic ending sure adds more than a few logs on the fire to replace Roque. The sad reality is that if he has years left on his contract, little Lake State doesn't have enough marbles to both buy Roque AND justify paying the big bucks to attrack a hi-pot coach to the Soo. If you take that hard look in the mirror, now, with themmove to the WCHA (from the frying pan into the fire) now
might be a very good time to face reality and move to DIII where the school really belongs. Let's face it, the probability of catching lightneing in a bottle again is slim and none and slim just left town. The Lakers should be mighty proud of the NCAA Championship banners they've earned, but one thing that many forget is that was pre-NCAA Clearinghouse days and we were able to student hockey players admitted that other hockey schools couldn't. Just think of my alma mater, Clarkson. They have won the most D1 games without a national championship (north of 1,600, I think). The only other option, and I hate to even bring it up, is to shut down men's hockey completely. It's a sad time, a low point, in Laker hockey history and wit will be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming off-season. UGH......................

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Tickets for the area are too expensive. A family of 4 with 2 kids would have cost you $108 to see all 3 games. You can find 4,000 people in Ann Arbor to pay that no problem, but in the Sault most people probably can't afford that.

I know what your saying but over the last few years i know of quite a few season ticket holders that let their seats go. None of them were because of money but because of the product on the ice and the coach. I want to see the Laker's do well plain and simple, if Roque could get the job done then I would back him. But he hasn't and I have seriouse doubts that he can. It's time for a change.

If the Lakers can pay the big bucks to land a top notch coach (Example: Mel Pearson, Michigan Tech), I'd be for it. However if they can't, then I'd keep Roque. I don't want the program absolutely terrible like during Anzalone's second stint.

whoa. down here at BGSU, we know something about existential hockey despair...and ya'll aren't even close to there yet. you've got a storied program, a new conference, strong rivalries, and you're in the heart of hockey country (not like trying to sell hockey in the heart of dixie or anything, lol). everything else can be fixed.
will LSSU win more national championships? maybe not. but so what? I'm not looking at the odds of BGSU taking more either, and it doesn't worry me much. hell, we're used to being a MAC school in B1G country...
what I mostly care about is being competitive in a solid conference with meaningful rivalries. actually, I figure we'll see some pretty good parity in the nWCHA for a while--nobody is running away with it.

Clarkson? I grew up in Potsdam, and saw many a game at the old Walker Arena. go Knights!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

You think this weekend was bad ? Roque is bringing back a team for next season that is going to be horrible . Anzalones second stint was better than the 8 years Roques stint has been. Anzalones teams may have been void of talent but no one outworked them and made them look silly out on the ice as was the case this past weekend. Roques only decent years were with two teams Anzalone recruited and coached. The Lake State hockey program has never recovered from the disaster of hiring Borek.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Another fantastic season under the direction of head coach Jim Roque. In now his 8th season, he helped lead the Lakers to an 8th place finish and one playoff victory.

Thanks coach for another great season of Laker hockey. You clearly are irreplaceable!
