Random stat to track:

Norwich and Plattsburgh are averaging 7.8 and 7.6 penalty minutes per game, respectively. Both would, at the end of the 25-game regular season, put them at 195 and 190 PIMs, respectively. The record for fewest penalty minutes in a season is 216, held by Wentworth with a 19-game season in 1996 (11.4/gm).

Given probable participation in conference and NCAA tournaments by the 2 teams, they would definitely need to slow the pace in order to contest Wentworth's record. That said, this is looking to be a team record low PIM count for both teams this year (Plattsburgh's record is 302, and Norwich isn't on the list that caps out at 368).

Oh, and nobody on the list of lowest PIM counts in a season in the recordbook averaged less than 8.7 pim/gm. So both teams would appear to probably be on pace to set a record in that department. Lots of hockey to be played, though.

Current count:
NRW - 157/20 = 7.8
PLT - 159/21 = 7.6

Your welcome, if anyone is aware of a manual or other NCAA Ice Hockey material that might "have been" available and is now difficult to locate, post it here and I will try to find it.

Fun Fact: Plattsburgh beat Cortland 15-0 the night before their 25-0 win versus Fredonia. That's some pretty impressive classlessness.

Interesting....

The men's D-I RPI is (appx) .25 WinPct + .25 OWP + .50 OOWP

Yet the D-III SoS is .667 OWP + .333 OOWP.

It appears that the 2 divisions calculate SoS 180 degrees apart. Interesting........

The reason for this is that for OOWP includes your own winning percentage, since the NCAA process doesn't exclude you from being one of your opponent's opponents. Norwich played Castleton and Norwich is one of Castelton's opponents, therefore Norwich contributes to their own OOWP

Let's try 4x4 for 10 minutes. But, because we're playing the OT differently than how you played regulation, you then have to go to 3 point games. After the 10 minutes, go to the IIHF or USA Hockey (but not the NHL) shootout.

BTW, if you check the tournament handbook it says for the # of ranked teams:
East - 14
West - 7

Misprint??

DIII working group to consider recruiting parameters

Fueling the arms-race recruiting environment are institutions that rely on athletics to boost enrollment, a number of growing technological resources, and an accelerated youth sports culture dominated by travel teams more than the traditional scholastic approach.

At the Convention session, the two primary issues that were cited as potential areas where NCAA rules could help were recruiting calendars and evaluations at nonscholastic events. The calendars could provide welcome work/life boundaries for Division III coaches, while evaluations at nonscholastic events could help with recruiting efficiencies, though perhaps at a cost. While some attendees at the Convention session appeared to like the convenience of the “one-stop shopping” of nonscholastic events, others were concerned about how club sports are evolving, squeezing out scholastic sports and fueling the sport-specialization culture, which could be viewed as inherently counter to the Division III philosophy.

While the Interpretations and Legislation Committee recognized the importance of both concerns, members acknowledged that any review of the recruiting environment likely would be much broader. As to the nonscholastic events specifically, the ILC recognized the importance of knowing which sports are more greatly influenced by the club sports scene, as well as how home-schooled students would be affected.

The committee is suggesting a working-group model because the recruiting environment involves so many areas of the campus, especially given that student-athletes make up a quarter or a third of the student body at most Division III schools. The ILC recommends including admissions personnel and enrollment VPs in addition to athletics administrators and coaches. In addition, the committee would like working group members to include those who wear several hats on campus (for example, an AD who also coaches, or a coach who also handles compliance, or who also coaches a youth or club team).

representative will be compensated by the NCAA.
