Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2013-14 Season Thread

Anybody know why Alison Wickenheiser wasn't playing this weekend?

My understanding is that she still has concussion symptoms from concussions suffered this summer. Jocelyn Slattery also got hurt in the game tonight.

And that was my second question--any word on Slattery's injury? It sounded like she needed help getting to the locker room, but the Bemidji radio announcer wasn't too concerned so never brought it up again.

Concussions, plural?

My understanding was that it was 2 concussions but don't know details. Slattery never returned. Don't know status.

Well a little reality sits in this weekend with 5-1 and 6-1 losses to North Dakota. Hensley took a beating in net with Lindenwood getting outshot 51-16 and 75-9, for a total of 115 saves on 126 shots. Looks like a lot of top players out with Wickenheiser out, Slattery didn't dress the second game and Witwicke got hurt in the second game and didn't return.

Tough weekend for LU against a sharp top ten team in ND. With some key players out the freshmen had their hands full and have had their expectations adjusted as to what it takes to aspire to be competitive at the D1 level. Hensley continues to earn her keep. Interesting to see the steep curve in plus minus between some of the younger versus older players. Hopefully the experienced players that are out will be back soon to help balance the squad.

The CHA release today indicated that Hensley's 69 saves on Saturday were the 6th most in NCAA history. She had 90 in a playoff fame last year.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2013-14 Season Thread

Another tough weekend for Lindenwood with 7-1 and 3-1 losses at home to Makato State. Slattery was back in the lineup, but not Wickenheiser or Witwicke.

I'm well aware of the injuries, but they're on average to score less than 40 goals this year. I think they're tied with SCSU at dead last. But LU is not in the WCHA, but I give them some credit for the NC schedule. Or is that just logistics?

I think it is a both. The WCHA non-conference schedule seemed to help them last year when they got into CHA play. But because they bus, trips from St. Louis to Grand Forks and Bemidji are rough. They were clearly worn out getting into Bemidji at 12:30 am before a 2 pm game on Friday and it showed in a 5-0 loss. Saturday they had their legs under them. It was 1-1 going into the 3rd. They stopped skating for 2 minutes in the 3rd and it cost them two shorty's and an even strength goal when they should have been up on a 5 on 3. Other than those 2 mintues, it was a good game. if they want to compete in D-1, they need a D-1 budget. Flying to 2 games a year with their travel won't cut it. Bemidji flys to St. Louis but Lindenwood drives to Bemidji. It means missing a lot of school and being dead tired when you get there.

In addition, they had everyone back this weekend but Wickenheiser. Word is that she is going to medical redshirt due to concussions. However, their offense has been non-existent this year.

Can Lindenwood earn its first win of the season this weekend at RMU?

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2013-14 Season Thread

Close 3-2 loss in the last minute of play. Shots close. Good outing for LU.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2013-14 Season Thread

Seems like they should have had another tie or at least a win the last couple of weeks against RIT and RMU. So will they get their first win against Penn State this weekend? That is where they started winning last season.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2013-14 Season Thread

Great win for LU with 7 seconds left. Nicole Hensley stood on her head in period 3.
