Without "debating" ... how about you post snippets about YOUR freshman class? Follow my format or not ...

UAA Seawolves
8 players::3 Forwards -- 4 Defensemen -- 1 Goalie

Forwards
Bobby Murphy, Blake Tatchell, Hayden Trupp
Tatchell is the top of this group. He was the SJHL League MVP last season with 86 (42g-44a) points in 57 games as a 20 year old. Murphy and Trupp are local anchorage kids who had generally minimum production in the BCHL and/or NAHL. I'd like to think Leask can pop in 10 goals this season. Anything more would be a nice bonus. Either Murphy or Trupp could find a niche role in the lineup but more likely this season will be mostly about developing.

Defensemen
Blake Leask, Ben Matthews, Austin Sevalrud, Chris Williams
Blake Leask led all AJHL Defensemen in scoring last season. He was named the AJHL's Top Defenseman for the league with 13g and 36a. Austin Sevalrud had a solid 4 year junior career with above average offensive production. Chris Williams brings average junior offensive stats on a 6ft2in 215lb frame which to me projects him as a stay at home guy. Ben Matthews offensive contributions are similar to Wiliams and at 6ft3in 225lbs he'd also project to be a defensively focused player.

Goalie
Michael Matyas
Good numbers even when playing for a bad team in juniors. If he comes in and plays with confidence and keeps everything out the net he'll have a job. Otherwise he should push the current junior-tandem to raise the level of their game.

So Leask and Tatchell i.e .... "The Blakes" will be the names to watch for UAA.

You are correct. He'll be playing for Waterloo this season. The Gopher's 2013 recruiting class is going to be a monster one: Kloos, Cammarata, Fasching, Guertler, Lettieri, Bischoff, Brodzinski.

Of the players I'm familiar with (mostly western) I'd have to say that Zalewski an Bokenfohr are a couple of guys that I would have coveted for UAA.

Good to hear your opinion about Bokenfohr. Since he committed late, we weren't following him all season. Zalewski is probably the most anticipated forward and Bradley on defense. Kasdorf is a big mystery on defense. He was great in the MJHL in 2010-11 but seemed to have trouble adjusting to the USHL, but a porous defense in Des Moines did not help. I don't know where RPI got the stats for him that I posted, but they don't agree at all with what is on the USHL site.

North Dakota:

F - Rocco Grimaldi

Grimaldi will likely be the biggest name offensively for the bunch. As has been much debated, Grimaldi played 4 games last season in the Kelly Green and White before succumbing to a season-ending knee injury. Grimaldi was a star for the US National Development Team, scoring 25 points in 23 games. If Grimaldi can stay healthy, look for him to be a top point-producer for North Dakota.

F - Colten St. Clair

St. Clair is the second player who attended UND last year, but due to some weird technicalities had to sit out the season. The academic Sophomore stuck it out, and Colten should be a solid contributor in his first season on the ice in Grand Forks. The Arizona native played three seasons with the Fargo Force, totaling 84 points (43g-41a) in 151 games. Most believe St. Clair will be a 4th line forward this season, but should jump up to a top-six forward in the next year or two.

F - Drake Caggiula

The 18-year old from Ontario lit up the OJHL playoffs this past season, scoring 37 points in 23 games (after scoring 34 points in 25 regular season games). Caggiula likely would have come in next season if not for the departure of Brock Nelson. While Caggiula will not be expected to replace Nelson's numbers, he may be able to crack the lineup on the fourth line.

F - Coltyn Sanderson

The only member from Saskatchewan on this year's team, Sanderson played his last two seasons in the SJHL at Weyburn. Coltyn dominated this past season scoring 81 points (32g-49a) in 57 games. Sanderson has his work cut out for him, and it is unlikely that he will see much ice time (at least IMO). However, he'll surely drive some fanbases wild if he stays four years at North Dakota. Sanderson is a '91.

F - Bryn Chyzyk

And sometimes 'y'...Chyzyk comes to North Dakota from the Fargo Force of the USHL. The Manitoba native scored 28 goals in 57 games last season, good for 8th in the League. Bryn also added 21 assists for a total of 49 points. Chyzyk should push for ice time this season, although likely with the 4th line.

D - Jordan Schmaltz

Arguably North Dakota's top incoming recruit this season, Schmaltz was a force in the USHL. The Wisconsin native tallied 10 goals and 31 assists to finish 2nd in the USHL for scoring by a D-man. Schmaltz was also a key force in leading Green Bay to the USHL championship. Jordan is expected to be a top-6 blueliner for UND this year, and should see plenty of time on the powerplay as well.

G - Zane Gothberg

Another top-end recruit for UND, Gothberg is coming off a tremendous career in the USHL. The Grand Forks born, Thief River Falls native led the USHL in Save %, and was 2nd in GAA. Zane played the 4th most minutes in the league for Fargo, and was stellar in the playoffs, posting a .942 save % and 1.78 GAA. Gothberg will likely get the majority of starts in net for North Dakota this season.

UML's Class Released, includes 9 freshmen, and two players who redshirted last year will also be joining in.
A defenseman, Gregory Amlong (6-2, 200) joins the River Hawks after two seasons with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Amlong helped lead the RoughRiders to the Anderson Cup in 2010-11 and served as an assistant captain in 2011-12. A right-handed shot, he totaled 38 points (10g, 28a) in 99 career games with Cedar Rapids.

Adam Chapie (6-1, 175) has spent the last two seasons playing forward for the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). A gifted scorer, he totaled 91 points (46g, 45a) in 118 career games with the Mustangs. Chapie enjoyed a career year in 2011-12, leading New Mexico in points (57), goals (31), power play goals (9), game-winning goals (4) and short-handed goals (2). He was selected to the NAHL’s Top Prospects Tournament in 2012.

Playing for two teams in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) over the past two years, Michael Colantone (5-11, 190) will bring his high-scoring antics to UMass Lowell in 2012-13. Colantone ranked 11th in the BCHL in goals (33) and 14th in points (74) last season with the Prince George Spruce Kings, averaging over 1.25 points per game. Prior to that, he scored 35 points (13g, 22a) in 57 games with the Victoria Grizzlies in 2010-11.

Michael Fallon (5-11, 175) will join the River Hawks after a strong campaign with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. The forward led Chicago in points (48), assists (29), power play assists (13), power play goals (9) and game-winning goals (4). Prior to that, Fallon scored 58 points (17g, 41a) in 58 games with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL in 2010-11.

The second defensemen in UMass Lowell’s incoming class, Christian Folin (6-3, 210) enjoyed a stellar career with the Austin Bruins of the NAHL over the last two seasons. In 2011-12, he scored 11 goals and 20 assists while recording a plus-45 rating and earning a spot on the NAHL’s All-Central Division Team. Folin totaled 41 points (12g, 29a) in 87 career games for Austin.

A fifth round NHL Draft pick by the Winnipeg Jets, Connor Hellebuyck (6-4, 200) spent last season in net for the Odessa Jackalopes of the NAHL. In his lone campaign Hellebuyck was named the league’s Co-Rookie of the Year and Co-Goaltender of the Year. He led the NAHL in minutes played (3,085:37) and saves (1,695) while recorded a 26-21-5 record, .930 save percentage and 2.49 goals against average.

Logan Johnston (6-1, 205) is a power-forward who skated for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL for the last four seasons. As captain, he led the Vees to the 2011-12 Royal Bank Cup and is a two-time NAHL Playoff MVP. In 208 career games, Johnston scored 39 goals, 61 assists and recorded 340 penalty minutes.

Hailing from the same hometown and team as fellow freshman Amlong, Ryan McGrath (5-7, 160) played for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from 2010-12. McGrath helped lead the RoughRiders to the Anderson Cup in his first season while scoring 42 points (18g, 24a). He was limited in 2011-12 due to injuries, but scored 17 goals and 19 assists in 39 games.

Lastly, A.J. White (6-2, 180) skated for two seasons with the Michigan Warriors of the NAHL, scoring 85 points (39g, 46a) in 115 games. In 2011-12, he led the Warriors in points (50), goals (28), power play goals (8) and game-winning goals (5). White was selected to the NAHL’s Top Prospects Tournament this past year.

Joe Houk was a 1st Team All-American as a freshman at Hamilton (he followed Coach Bazin to Lowell), finishing there with a 17-16-33. He'll be a RS Junior.

Dmitry Sinitsyn will be a RS-Freshman. He joined the program in January of last season, but didn't play.

8 Frosh To Join Men's Hockey Program
New Bulldogs Introduced

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The eight freshmen who join the 2012-13 Yale men's hockey team this fall were announced today and include five forwards and three defensemen.
The new Bulldogs come from five different states and one province, and bring experience from the USHL (3), EJHL (2), BCHL, AJHL and a New England prep school.
They range in size from 5-foot-9 to a pair of 6-foot-4 skaters, while the average weight of the class of 2016 is just over 190 pounds.
"We are very excited to announce our class of 2016. [Yale assistant coaches] Dan Muse and Red Gendron have done an excellent job putting together a group that can make an immediate contribution to our hockey team," said Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach of Hockey. "This group possesses the character, work ethic, and competitiveness that have become trademarks of Yale Hockey. They will be expected to come in and push us all to a higher level."
