Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

MSU-Mankato made the Lakers look like a high school team out there tonight.

The Maverick's are a very good team but I think the Lakers had a huge part in looking like a high-school team.

Why can't they make a pass to hit a teammate in stride? At home senior weekend with a chance to help their playoff hopes and come out like that is shameful.

This is no exaggeration, I even waited to clear my thoughts before posting this: that was the worst, most lopsided loss I have ever seen the Lakers take in my time as a Laker fan. The postgame salute the players gave looked like they were all coming back from a funeral. I really feel bad for them tonight, they looked crushed.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Mankato came to play, we didn't. They had a lot more jump and energy right from the start of the game. The Lakers looked like they had no self-confidence. The biggest positive accomplishments for the Lakers tonight were finally getting to double digits for shots on goal by around mid-way in the 3rd period, and not getting beat by more goals than they did. Complete domination by Mankato.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Tough luck for Lake Superior tonight but they were ready and just had some bad breaks. 2 of the 6 shots in the first 40 minutes were really good ones. Coach Roque will have the boys fired up for Saturday's game up there.

Year 9 will be the best one yet for Lake Superior under this coach or if not the next one!!

UAH did us a huge favor by beating Bemidji tonight. As of now it looks like it will be us, Bemidji, and Bowling Green battling for the last playoff spot.

I wrote it up on the WCHA main topic, but it'd be pretty optimistic to get to 14-14-0, which would pretty much guarantee you getting in. More likely is 13-15-0 (winning tomorrow, getting swept by Ferris). Sure, the Beavers are more likely to finish with 26 points now themselves, but they have the tiebreaker over the Lakers with a 3-1-0 season series record.

You want the Beavers to lose, lose, lose. Bemidji going 1-2-0 really makes your lives better. I don't think that UAH is going to get you another bite at the apple, but I'd sure love it if we could. ;)

I won't be surprised at all if the Lakers lose all three of their remaining games.

IF that happens, they're done.

I don't think many of us are holding our breath....Roque's next clutch late season series victory will be his first, and it sounds like the players body language tells the whole story.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Pretty much a must win game tonight, and a completely different Laker team than last night has to show up to have any chance of getting a win. I think if they lose tonight they are toast. If they don't come to play tonight with a lot of energy and confidence, they'll never do it in a similar situation until a coaching change is made.

If we do lose out, our only hope would be that Bowling Green loses out as well. Lakers would have the tiebreaker over BGSU since we went 3-1 against them this year.

And Bill, that is definitely a 100 percent true statement.

BG has been slumping, but they finish at home against Bemidji who also seems to be slumping.

A three way race to 9th place!

No doubt we need to win tonight and need NMU to beat BGSU. I hope the players play like they are trying to save Roque's job. If they don't show the energy and passion tonight, maybe they don't care for him.

You're right. I didn't consider that possibility.

Better game tonight, but still have a bitter taste in my mouth. Things aren't looking good, but I'm not giving up yet.

I believe in order to get a spot in the WCHA playoffs as of now, we need to get a split next weekend AND have Bemidji and BGSU NOT split their series next weekend meaning one team gets four points and the other zero. Getting only a tie would get them in only if BGSU sweeps out Bemidji.

Only bright side right now Alex Globke . He had another two points tonight which has him at 31 points, the most I believe by a Laker Freshman since Sean Tallaire in 92-93. Hopefully he can win WCHA Rookie of the Year.

EDIT: The Nanooks just swept swept Ferris State. That's the last thing we needed. Now we will be facing a VERY angry Ferris State desparate to sweep us so they keep up with Mankato for the regular season title.

Lakers get swept by Ferris and Northern splits with Alabama and it's checkmate for Lake State.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Why did Roque pull Kapalka and put Murdock in ? Isn't it important to keep your better goalie in to try and win the game . Why would a coach pull his starting goalie and put in a goalie with poor numbers on the season . Didn't roque keep Murdock in when Ravn was his backup to try and keep the team in the game when the game was all but over in the third period a couple weeks ago . Roque doesn't switch goalies when the game is all but over but switches goalies when the Lakers still have a chance of winning and he puts in a goalie with a 891 save per centage and an almost 4 goals against. Why the hell do you take out your starting goalie and put in a guy who has horrible numbers and can't win.
