Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

On the show tonight, they said Kapalka will make the trip and play in 1 of the games.

I'm glad KK was able to make it back quickly from those injuries, you would hope he would get the opportunity to play professionally following this season but his injury history may cast a pall on those chances but it's nice that he will at least get the chance to show what he can do following his latest injury, one would think that will help his chances more than if he had to head into the off-season and never got a chance to play in a game following injury.

I'm the lout who does play-by-play, so I may duck in here for pronunciation help tomorrow. I hope to not flub names too badly, and I promise not to listen to our PA guy, who WILL flub them up badly.

He'll probably get a chance to play at some level. It is too bad about his injuries and how that might affect his pro chances. Maybe he'll get a shot at the ECHL level if not at the AHL level. And there is always Europe if you're willing to go that far, but I think he'll get some type of shot over here.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

While I agree with many of your points, your point about effort I have to disagree with you. I have been attending Laker games for many years and I have always respected the effort the team put forward in the last 2 or 3 minutes. Always. I have some very exciting finishes either winning or tying in the last minute. However this year I have not seen it, the last Saturday home game I felt they mailed it in and quite frankly they did a disservice to previous teams that busted their tails at the end. They for gosh sakes they pulled Murdock for the last 4 minutes and couldn't score a goal! Just an observation.

There does seem to be a dropoff in the late game pushes the last couple of seasons...I went to Lake State from 07-08 to 10-11 and in that time there was literally between 20 and 30 or so games where the Lakers tied or notched the go ahead goal in the last 5 minutes or so of the game, many of which involved Rick Schofield.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

I would guess that Murdock starts Friday and Kapalka Satruday. Also I wonder if Pete Spratte might play a game this weekend or any other games this season?

Win or lose they busted their tails and made it exciting and earned the respect of many. Rick seemed to lead the way during his time there.

Lakers down 1-0 already...no surprise. With Kapalka back hopefully the Lakers don't get too cocky.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Nice win but I won't be happy unless the Lakers win and get the sweep tomorrow.

Also tonight was win #900 in program history.

It was touch and go, but they did what they had to do and got the win. Another must win game tonight. Anything less will make it extremely tough to make the playoffs. Even another win tonight won't do it by itself. We'll likely still need at least another 2-4 points over the last two weekends of the regular season. But a loss tonight would be devastating.

I want to apologize in advance for our A1 broadcast tonight. Our meteorologist-cum-analyst got called in to weekend work at his work, and I twanged something in my knee last night on the way down from press row (68 stairs to my level). It didn't hurt much when I went to bed last night, but man, there's no way I'm making it back up there tonight. You're going to be stuck with an open mic aimed at the PA for audio. There's no way for us to patch in LSSU radio over to us, or we would — they're on the other side of the rink.

This, combined with the technical difficulties we had last night, leave me with nothing to do but to apologize profusely.

Kapalka back in net tonight. You figured if he was healthy, they were going to ride him as long as possible.

Looks like you got Brian Garber instead of dead air, but I know that you're not happy being down 2-1.

Holy crap the Lakers won on Saturday and get the sweep!!!! Good job boys! Lakers will probably need to win two out of their last four games and we definitely need at least a split next weekend. Only negatives this weekend was the power-play and Globke getting held without a point. We need production out of him if the Lakers are going to win games the next two series.

A sweep on the road is good, but beating a bottom eeder is nothing to be too proud about. Let's hope that this is the start of a streak!

A sweep is better than a split. UAH is having a tough year, that is true -- but I was not willing to bet any money that the Lakers Saturday Night Road Nightmares were going to abate merely because they were in Alabama.

But as I posted earlier: KK = wins.

Yah, they did what they had to do, but as much as they struggled against UAH, it doesn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy going forward. Unless one of their competitors for a playoff spot goes in the tank the last two weekends of the season, they'll probably need 4 more points to make the playoffs.

I have good news for you - Kato is 1-8 on the road on Fridays, 0-8 north of the Mason Dixon line. If we don't snap that trend this Friday, you're halfway to 4.

17 hour bus trips don't exactly do wonders for the legs. And before a google mapster says it's "only" 14:47, don't forget to add meal and rest stops.
