A bigger embarrassment would have been Alaska pulling their goalie with 4 minutes to go and still win the game.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Sorry I don't get it. I thought Ravn had one year left since he is not on the program picture with the seniors.
Weird move.
Maybe he'll come back next season, be the # 1 goalie, have all new equipment, get a senior picture of his own, and practice every day. ;)

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

20 years of losing. The problem is far bigger than the name of the guy behind the bench. Can a coach make a difference? Sure. Look at Anchorage. But they're paying Thomas more than $50,000 more than Roque and he has two assistants working full time with better money than the peanuts they pay here. You can't shop at Goodwill and expect Saks Fifth Avenue. Even WalMart would be an upgrade here. Just be thankful for Huntsville. At least for another year or two until they catch up. As for Ravn, there's a good reason he's emergency only. He couldn't stop a beach ball with an ironing board. He might get lucky for a period or two before the scoreboard lights up like a pinball machine. Even the Truth Sisters kid might score.

You are right! Year 10 will be the best one yet under Jim Roque!!!

And you know this how? Ravn has played a grand total of two periods of Div 1 hockey, both on the road, both 3rd periods when the Lakers were getting trounced, once at Miami and once at Tech. I don't think he's played at all at home; wasn't his time in exhibition games all on the road? At any rate, we have very little to go on to determine how good of a goalie he is. He was one of the top goalies in the CCHL for his Junior hockey and had very good stats; that's what we do know. As it is now, Kapalka can't play due to injury and Murdock's play this season isn't up to his past standards.

Actually the Miami game was at home. Still pretty sad nevertheless.

(As for Ravn, there's a good reason he's emergency only. He couldn't stop a beach ball with an ironing board. He might get lucky for a period or two before the scoreboard lights up like a pinball machine.)

We do know this about Ciotti and the coach keeps him out there. The opposing goalie could be at the movies and Ciotti would not score a goal.

... the peanuts they pay here
Are you serioulsy suggesting a pay raise for Roque will make him better?

Very unbiased and substantiated proposition. You seem to be overwhelmed by your emotions.
Practice performance despite Roque's efforts to undermine it support his junior credentials as often publicly reminded by Bill Crawford.

Obviously not, but our friend RapidsCity probably has good arguments to explain how keeping a player away from games, practices and team picture and denying him access to decent equipment would help the team to win games (0.300 in 2014), and justify a salary increase.

If people would attend a few practices I think they would start to realize why Ravn is not playing. He gets lit up in practice, so that is probably why he never sees time in actual games.

RapidsCity. So Ciotti must be scoring like hell in practice to keep him playing in 27 games so far.

So you're not located in Wisconsin any more? You're living in the Soo (or close by) such that you can go to practices regularly?

Look, I don't know how good he is and have never claimed to know. Maybe he isn't that great in practice. I don't know. I don't live near the Soo so I don't go to practices; I try to make it up a couple of times a season to see the Lakers play. Some guys are great in practice but don't play that well during actual games. For some, it's the other way around. The only way to know how good Ravn really is (or isn't) is to play him in games. That hasn't happened and I don't expect it to happen, unless both Kapalka and Murdock are injured. Ravn's Junior stats were very good his last season, and that on a 5th place team. He also got a lot of praise from opposing coaches back then (as noted in news articles from the CCHL). We all know Junior stats don't necessarily translate over to college hockey all that well, but his credentials are good enough to question people saying he isn't any good based upon almost non-existent playing time at this level.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

I think we have a simple question here. Does anyone see this program getting any better under Roque ?

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

I think the problem with the Lakers are the Friday/Saturday night games. Next season go to a Thursday/Friday night series.
