Did Roque allow Ravn to dress ? When Roque said his starting first line was playing somewhere else this season , he pretty much told his team this season is a wash and now it looks like it is heading down that way. Does everyone want the same results next season and the season after that and after that ? Keep this coaching staff and there will be no surprises for anyone .

Yes, Ravn did dress last night.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

The Lakers played as close to a perfect 1st period last night as any game I can remember. They dominated puck control and all aspects of the game. Even though they took 4 penalties in the 2nd(2 were absolutely horrid calls, ask anyone there), I felt they had decent chances all night but the Bemidji goalie came up big on more than a few occasions. If they play like that every night, they are going to win alot more than they lose.

The problem is: for every really good game the Lakers have played this year, there is a game like Friday to go along with it. And at ANY level of hockey, that is just not going to get the job done. They need to play hard and fast for 2 games, not hard for one and coast the 2nd.

That is the problem it seems . Opposing goalies seem to always come up big against Lake State but become beat able as soon as they play their next series. Anzalone said it best when he was last there ( we make every goalie look good ) . Roque has his own interpetation as well. We keep shooting like that and eventually they will go in and the problem with that remark seems to be it never happens.

Yes, Ravn did dress last night.
Roque pretty much had to dress Ravn. Megariotis (transfer goalie) isn't eligible until next season. There is another kid in school with some Junior A experience in net, but he may not even have been on campus this weekend since 2nd semester classes don't start until tomorrow. And even if the kid was on campus, how was Roque going to explain away Ravn if he dressed the other kid instead.

Bemidji goalie played solid, but I don't think he stole either game for the Beavers. The Lakers are struggling to score period. The Bemidji goalie had good looks at almost all the shots he faced this weekend. Lakers had a a little more traffic in front on Saturday than Friday, but still not enough screening. Quite a few loose pucks in front of the Bemidji goalie on Saturday, but Bemidji D (and in some cases forwards) were quicker getting to them and clearing them than Lakersr players were.

Commonality each night: Lakers score 1st. Bemidji scores 2nd, and then they take over control of the game. Bemidji goals seemed to energize their team much more so than Laker goals energized them.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

True Laker fans NEVER ditch their team, no matter what. I never ditched the Lakers even during the AWFUL, AWFUL 2nd Anzalone era.

I think fans also have a limit to how long they can tolerate watching a team lose and no movement in trying to change things with new coaching that at least brings a new view to how the team needs to be coached. I think nine years of Roque and falling apart every season is enough. If after 9 years of Roque you still have no idea how the team is going to do each season, you are not a fan and most likely go to games to text and social visit with your friends .

Had Anzalone not had been is own worse enemy and stayed there to rebuild the program, the Lakers would most likely be one of the top programs in the nation.

Hi. If we can withstand the program nearly going away and being on a run of 47-180-19 in its last 246 contests, I suggest that you can put up with your team until such time as they make a coaching change (which I think is warranted at this point).

Collapse.

Again.

I will never give up on the team.

And I hope I am dead wrong.

But I think I've seen this movie before, and I know how it ends.

Collapse.

Again.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

On the Penalty Kill last night Collin Campbell and another player took a 2 on 1 into the Bemidji zone. Campbell passed the puck and the other player, staring at a half-open net, shot it wide left of the far post. When I say wide, I mean W-I-D-E! The look of disgust on Campbell's face told the whole story of the game. Jim Roque, Tim Christian, Frank Anzalone, or any other coach can't fix that. Players need to put the puck in the net when they get good chances. Plain and simple.

At this point, I wouldn't mind seeing a change at head coach just for the sake of change. But one thing keeps coming to mind: "If we do change, could it get worse?" You bet your sweet butt it could (we have experienced it before). So right now we have two options: 1) keep the status quo and hope things get better; 2) Make a change with an unproven coach who will accept one of the lowest salaries in NCAA hockey and probably the most work of any D-1 coach.

Both options suck, but one seems to have more upside. I'll let ya'll decide which one that is.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

Before the Lakers change coaches, it would be wise to outline what the administration's expectations or the program are. Do they want our D1 team to be a top-flight program that annually competes for league and national titles or just a solid, middle
of the pack program that competes every night. There is a HUGE difference between the two. IMO, Lake State fans would
probably be happier with a top ranked DIII program than a middle of the pack or lower program. Hockey is the only D1 team we have and it's a continnual stretch to compete with the big boys. Then, based on the outcome of a clear objective of the program can the decision be made on the coach. Jim Roque is a good but not great program. Given a MAJOR commitment
($000) by the administration, a new, higer paid, big-time coach could be brought in to stimulate the return to the elite level od D1 hckey..............I just don't see that happening.

I think it was Ciotti who was with Campbell on the 2 on 1. Not 100% sure of that, but I think it was Ciotti. That could have made the score 3-2 and gave them some momentum.

Re: Lake Superior State Hockey Lakers 2013-2014 (part II)

I think what most are tired of is not what happened this past weekend but what seems to happen every second half of the season. The Lakers seem to go from a pretty darn good first half hockey team to who the hell is this second half team that now shows up on the ice.

I don't know anyopne who would want to fall back to a Division 3 team. I would also like to believe that there are coaches out there who are good coaches who would love a shot at Division 1 hockey coaching at a school like Lake State . Regardless of the pay, I have to believe winning is still the most important issue with any coach.

Ron Rolston is available.

Lakers recieve six votes in this week's USCHO poll.
