OK, but that stat is due more to the number of games coached at LSSU than anything else. Mason left LSSU with 130 wins in a total of 182 games. Roque has reached 130 wins, but it's taken him 328 games to do so.

With a win tonight, the Lakers would be in 3th heading into the break, holding the tie-break over Bemidji and BG due to a greater number of wins. Big opportunity considering they have 2 home series after the break.

Pretty good first period, but a pretty flat second period. Sounds like Murdock bailed us out. If the Lakers play like that again in the 3rd period, we will lose.

Hopefully the Lakers can win the 3rd to get the sweep. Murdock held the Lakers in it there in the 2nd.

Lakers need to move their feet and win the one on one battles which didn't happen in that 2nd period. Anchorage wanted it more and it showed. Let's go Lakers win the battles to win the game and get that sweep.

Tough loss, but at least they got a split on the road. This loss stings so now might be the perfect time for a break. The Lakers have done much better than most of us expected with the players we lost to graduation and early departures in the first half. I just hope the 2nd half of the season won't be like the past few years.

I saw Murdock play when he was at msu Mankato, and was not impressed with him, however a transfer was what he needed cause he looks ten times better than he was at Mankato, and Kapalka is a beast as well.

A split with Alaska Fairbanks is "OK" - that's a tough trip and usually we have to contend with the oficiating in
the second game. The schedule favors the Lakers as it usually takes a couple o weeks to fully recover from the travel & time changes. When son Matt played for the Lakers, they never played well the week ater the
Alaska trip.

Are you referring to travel up there next year?

Not a bad weekend -- at all.


The Lakers held Anchorage to two whole whopping goals, all weekend, on big ice, on the road. I was especially impressed with the Lakers on the Saturday night game. Although we didn't win, we didn't mail it in, either. With a win in the books, the boys could have let off the gas. And Anchorage was certainly not in the mood to be swept at home. Giving up two goals on the road, all weekend, is pretty good.

At this point, the Lakers have a winning record at home and on the road.
They have a legitimate scoring line.,
They have two very capable goalies.
Their defense -- despite a few howling poor games -- has mostly been quite stout.

And they have yet to make up the stagger, so to speak: Most WCHA teams have played 14 league games. LSSU has only played 12. If the Lakers were to win those two games in hand, they would be comfortably in third place behind a very good Ferris team and a pre-season-first-place selection Mankato team.

And the Lakers have games against Huntsville and NMU left on the books -- UAH is struggling and NMU is just not good. (Ferris is 3-0-1 against UAH/NMU; Mankato is 4-0-0 against UAH/NMU combo). So the schedule is looking bright for the second half. And LSSU does not have to travel to Mankato this year -- their only two games against the Mavs are in the Soo.

Ask yourselves -- would you have taken a quasi-third place position and a 10-7-1 record at the break?

In my opinion, Truthy McBlabberpuss was correct -- this season IS (so far) Jim Roque's Best!

Well put. At the start of the year, I think we all would have been happy with 10-7-1 at this point.

Hopefully the Lakers can get at least 6 points in the 4 home games right after the break.

I thought the 4th line of Nardi-Schmitt-Miller had their best weekend of the year in Alaska. They scored twice the first night, and had plenty of good chances in the 2nd game.

I agree the schedule is favorable the 2nd half of the year expect for the last two weeks of the season. Here's the schedule for the second half and what I hope the Lakers accomplish that weekend....

Jan 3-4 Michigan Tech- Sweep
Jan 10-11 Bemidji State- Sweep
Jan 17-18 @ Notre Dame (NC)- Split
Jan 24-25 @ Bowling Green- Split
Jan 31-Feb 1- Bye Weekend
Feb 7-8- Alaska Anchorage- Sweep
Feb 14-15 @ Northern Michigan- Split
Feb 21-22 @ Alabama Huntsville- Sweep
Feb 28-Mar 1- Minnesota State- Split
Mar 7-8 @ Ferris State- Split

If those scenarios happen, the Lakers would be eight games above .500 in WCHA play, probably good enough for home ice for the opening round.

My expectations for the 2nd half are pretty well equal to what you have posted here. My only difference is I have them splitting with Tech.

I agree with everything you say and I am excited to see them do this well and very excited to see the freshmen do so well. Maybe some of you who may have played college hockey can explain to me why it is they have fallen apart on Saturday nights? :confused: In years past it was Friday night they couldn't win and Saturdays they played great. Is it conditioning? Losing focus? If they could put a more Friday and Saturday night wins they would be right there with Ferris. Who appears to be running away from the rest of the conference.

Why do the final four teams in the WCHA make up the "WCHA Final Five"? This confuses me.

In a way, it's the "final five" games of the WCHA season before the NCAA tournament. I think that' why they still call it the WCHA Final Five.
