Lake State Hockey 2022-23

Does anyone have a link to listen to the laker hockey show? I see they are no longer putting podcasts on the ccha website.
 
This is a really nice schedule to start the season. All winnable games, all at home, and all against opponents that Lake State could get some national credit for beating. Omaha and Clarkson both look very beatable struggling early. Sandwiched in between is a Michigan program that is going through scandal. If there's ever a time to get off to a hot start, this is it.

Nice to see the upgrade to the stadium experience. The old scoreboard made the arena feel older than it truly was. With that, I also want to say that when the old CCHA went way, I know there was a lot of concern about what would happen to LSSU hockey. Looking back on it now, I don't think it went all that bad over the past 10 years. I do miss some of the old rivalries, but there have been many positives.

LSSU's overall product has been on the upswing, the long NCAA tourney drought ended, there seems to be more money to do things like video upgrades and bring in an assistant like Dwayne Roloson who was a former NHL All-Star, more money to keep Whitten around to avoid being seen as a stepping stone bolting at his first NCAA tourney appearance, and even the teams LSSU is playing are still interesting. It's been nice to have all the UP schools together, and Lake State has gotten Michigan to come to the Sault a few times, which I think a lot of people were probably thinking wouldn't happen going forward.

Sooooo...been awhile.

I haven't looked back in detail, but this has to be one of the worst starts for a Laker team ever, if not the worst. 1-11-2 (.143 win %) record, 6th worst offence in the nation, 5th worst goals against per game (3.79 currently), 13.85% PP, 75.44% PK and dead last in the league standings.

In Whitten's first season, the team had a 3-15-0 (.167 win %) at this point in the year (after the first week of December, not in total games played).

My question to those who have seen more games this year is what are you seeing?

Well, I don't have a Flo subscription and I don't live very close to the Soo, but I have made 2 trips up to see them play 4 games this season (against UNO and BG). That's not a lot to go on and I know they had some guys suffering from the flu this past weekend, but what I saw is they weren't able to play at the same pace as UNO and BG. Damon has said that he wants to the team to play with pace and be hard to play against. To me, it looks like they need better/faster skaters and with better hands. I'm not talking just a couple of players more but as a team. We lost a couple of our best skaters off of last seasons team, Nordqvist and Nixon, and it showed. I'm sure the illness factor made it look worse than it was this past weekend, but to me it looks like we've lost ground in the pace of play compared to the past couple of seasons.

Offense has been the biggest struggle. They're hitting a lot of posts so far this season and just don't seem to be able to finish plays off. Defensively they have been turning the puck over far too much in their own end. Henrickson on D has been out with an injury for several games and they definitely miss him. Scoring the 1st goal would help so they aren't always chasing the game.
