Junior Basketball

An idea that would be a huge hit....Using the Canadian Hockey League (WHL, OHL and the Q) as a model....A Jr. Basketball League in the US. I only need the money:) It's a wonder Popeye Jones didn't think of it watching Seth play for the Winterhawks. The best prospects would love it as would the NBA. Best part would be ****in off millionaire ******** college coaches.

Re: Junior Basketball

Too bad the "colleges" have a monopoly.

Maybe on white kids who can't play anyway. NCAA doesn't allow poor kids to even accept food. Guy on TV the other night had nothing to eat so he called the coach....coach brought him down a bag of tacos.....which is against NCAA regulations. Next day coach shows up at practice in a new Lexus.

Give the kids nice billets with all they can eat, some pocket money, an education and tutors while playing, the chance to be drafted, get a signing bonus and turn pro at 18. If they aren't pro material pay there extended education. Yea I can't see a poor kid going for that deal. He'd rather starve playing for the pompous old white jerk driving the Lexus.

The league would be successful. Plenty of markets in US. If crap minor league hockey can draw 5,000 fans, I'm sure high level junior basketball could. Expenses are a lot higher for hockey and plenty of junior teams are getting by on less than 3,000 per game.

Would they be able to go back and forth depending on their age?

You can use a different system than the CHL uses because there is no farm system for basketball. The NHL can't take a 18 year old junior kid and put him on an AHL team. Lets say though if they (the NBA) drafted an 18 year old they could have until Xmas before they decided whether he was going to stay pro or go back to junior.

I bet a team could pack the Utica War Memorial but Utica would never get a team too many other better markets.

Anyway...

Hi Neighbour....Liverpool NY huh...home of Heids (mmmmm) I'm from Kingston Ontario....one of the finalists for the birthplace of hockey....home of so many NHLers you can't count them all.....and its Grapes hometown too.

Re: Junior Basketball

You should probably go to US College Basketball Online and discuss this over there because most of us don't give a flying **** about bouncyball...

Hence why it's in the Café. ;) There are some interesting parallels to college hockey, though. The biggest issue I see is the competition with NCAA and the associated capital needed to start it.
