It's Rivalry Series Week! USA or Canada?

One-goal game with US ahead 1-0 going into the 3rd - it's clutch time for Canada.

USA went ahead 2-0, and then Canada tied it up 2-2, with the first Canada goal coming from Danielle Serdachny and the 2nd from Ella Shelton. The young players on both sides have had a strong presence - like Abbey Murphy, Serdachny, and the Goslings. Now heading to OT.

Marie-Philip Poulin scores the only goal in the shootout (the US shot first, with Hilary Knight), and Canada takes a win.

I don't know why USA never went top shelf in the shootout? The other zones were effectively shut down.

Seemed to me they tried the five-hole, and were blocked, or they found out they couldn't shift her off of her post. Murphy looked close (maybe). Yeah, no one did a quick release. Desbiens seemed to know how much she should come out or stay put!

After several five hole attempts that failed you'd think the last shooter would try up high.

My thoughts exactly. In selecting your shootout players there seems to be a bias towards those with fancy moves. I would like to have 2 or 3 snipers in there.

I'll pass on being a coach but in any sport it's plain old common sense when one approach doesn't work you try someing different.

There was a game one time where Nurse had great opportunities to score and she kept shooting glove side high on the goalie. Mark Johnson told her if you shoot there again you won't see the ice the rest of the game. Her next chance she shot someplace else and she scored. I think sometimes an athlete gets too far into their own ability and they feel they can outability the opponent and they get blinders on to situational awareness.
