Resurrecting the program that has been dormant for over 60 years. This is huge.

Aw poop.

Re: Illinois Fighting Illini Hockey is back

The team already announced the new jersey in the student newspaper about a week ago. Photos an all. It would be weird to post it a week later on the Facebook page and call it a big announcement.

Re: Illinois Fighting Illini Hockey is back

If the University of Illinois can coax the Jimmy John's CEO into giving the school $70 million or $80 million for a new rink, there will be Illini hockey in the B1G. Otherwise, it's not happening at the D-I level.

They run an excellent club program in Champaign, and they could probably make an easy transition into D-I college hockey, but financing the program itself is the issue. (As it always is.)

Is the Jimmy Johns owner a hockey fan?

Re: Illinois Fighting Illini Hockey is back

Jimmy John's

On January 13, 1983, the first Jimmy John's opened in a garage in Charleston, Illinois. Paying $200 a month in rent, Liautaud could afford only used equipment consisting of a refrigerator, a chest freezer, an oven and a meat slicer; there was no ice machine.[6] Liautaud soon started delivering his sandwiches to the students of Eastern Illinois University.[7]

Nobody's lying: they're both gonna get teams

Re: Illinois Fighting Illini Hockey is back

Structurally, the B1G ruins the college hockey we knew and loved.

But financially, it is going to work for the big schools and that isn't going to go unnoticed by other big schools.

You have rabid fanbases like Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oklahoma that will go to games and support teams.

Hell, that goofy little club program in Tuscaloosa is starting to really become a fixture down there.

Re: Illinois Fighting Illini Hockey is back

The original post was on Saturday saying the announcement would be "tomorrow". It is now Monday. What happened? :)
