Ice Breaker 10/10/14, RPI @ Notre Dame

Re: Ice Breaker 10/10/14, RPI @ Notre Dame

Wow, These guys played a game that I haven't seen since I started following RPI.
Speed was good, passing was good, defense was good enough. Kasdorf was Kasdorf.
And we didn't fold when they pulled their goalie.
Great win.

From this vantage point-we decided this game by playing the best special team game in a long time. We got called for enough penalties that ND could have gotten a bigger lead than 1-0 and we just shut down their power play. props to McGowan and his special team linematies for much of that. One critique though-we really have to improve on face offs. ND won too many cleanly in our zone and although we recovered, it only has to cost you one time in a game and you can reverse the score.

McGowan didn't play. it was McCowan all game. :D

The announcer wasn't bad besides for his pronouncing of McGowan and Liljegren.
I agree Ralph. It wasn’t bad. Add; Jake Wood a Junior....the Tyler Nanne reference, but in total, it wasn’t a bad announcing job (IMO). Now get up early Sat/Sun. & start the gamethread.

In terms of faceoffs, one thing I noticed... How many times was Laliberté thrown out of the circle? I'd have to say at least five. That's going to contribute. Also add a whole slew of offsides calls (although most of that was because one of the frosh seemed a bit "excited" out there; I'm willing to be patient in awaiting his patience), and during a lot of the game we just couldn't seem to get a handle on the puck even when it was technically in our possession. There are certainly a lot of things to work on.

That being said, points are points. We don't see these guys until possibly the national tournament, so we just have to wish them well in HEA play. Who's next?

Dude-you are most certainly correct on the faceoffs. But did you also notice that the ND players often did a lot of movement before the drop also? This may be a lot of just not being used to the linesmen and their rhythm. But i did sense a bit of home town officiating-not as bad as some game sin the past-but some never the less.

I did notice some at times, yes. It doesn't excuse our movement, which I'd attribute to excitement over the first real game of the season.
