Hockey player needs your vote

Re: Hockey player needs your vote

Why would it be an NCAA violation?
Winning money while being a NCAA athlete is frowned on. That's why he asked. The NAIA (I think) basketball player who won $20k from the Thunder half court shot had to get permission from the NCAA to keep the money, and only to use it towards his tuition.

Yeah, that is what she will be doing with it. She is a senior, but will be four credits shy so is taking class/lab next fall to finish. Vote here.

Thanks

And is this an NCAA violation?

Explicitly, no.

I find it distasteful, however to be using the college hockey community to place a thumb on the scales. It is probably not her fault but I'd prefer that this be left to the Syracuse university community and various fans of design. IMO, reward the best, whomever it is.

The basketball thing is different. He is making money off of his specific basketball talents, that was the problem there. Nothing wrong here other than the distaste I have for fan advocacy.

Edit: the bball player could also have issues if it wasn't at random. For instance, I can't win raffles at conferences since I work for the man... I can't show I wasn't benefitting from public employment and recieving an impermissible gift. If he had, instead, threaded a puck in a tiny hole from center ice this would not be a discussion.

Well, I would agree with you Patman but the competition threw down the gauntlet, and is using vote trading to boot. Got to meet fire with fire, though she is keeping it to the rules and on the up and up. No vote trading! Vote, hockey fans, vote!

Well, the competition is making good use of the vote trading sites and has a pretty good lead today. Yesterday the USCHO crowd and others erased it and gave Sadie a two vote lead by dawn. Let's do it again. VOTE VOTE VOTE!

I think her design is one of the better if not the best... but... ehh... and I'm not even sure what's meant by "vote trading".

A person in a contest like this will promise his/her vote to another person in a similar contest in exchange for receiving votes in his/her own contest. Quid pro quo.

well, yes, but IMO, that only buys you one vote... people are friends with each other then... well... I don't consider peer pressure the same as vote trading.

OK folks, it is down to the wire. After trailing by close to 100 points Sadie got back into it, went ahead by 10, and is now down by seven. VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!
