Hockey East Summer Predictions

Re: Hockey East Summer Predictions

I predict that no matter what happens, for the 257th consecutive time, no BC players will be chosen for the Milk Carton team.

Have you not seen Destry Straight play? Then again, even if you had, you probably didn't notice him. He's 2-1 odds to be the preseason All-Milk Carton Team Player of the Year when these are put together in a few weeks. He is as likely to be on a milk carton as Keith Johnson's excuse for trying to pick up a 14 year old girl in a chatroom. :D

My big question is what will change on the BC team with Cavanaugh gone. McInnis being added as a volunteer is great news as I can't say I was convinced the forwards would be getting similar coaching with Ayers.

ROTY is always a toss up but I think Fitzgerald is primed to be a very good 4 year player while others perhaps have better PRO careers. I'd probably give him the nod for preseason pick for ROTY at this point as he is able to do a lot of things well and seems to be able to translate that against good competition in spite of his EJHL pedigree. He's probably also a good bet to be the player most likely to be blamed on a BU injury by the fanboys for the next four years so he also has that going for him.

More Predictions :

Standings :

UNH : Great Special teams, lose little offensively, solid tending and a never ending supply of turtle necks have the WildCats in the #1 spot

Add exits Hockey East in the Quarter Finals 2-1 and Wins 1st NCAA game only to drop a close 2nd to not make the frozen 4.

Now that standings prediction look right on the money...

Re: Hockey East Summer Predictions

1. UML - FF team bringing a lot back
2. BC - Their position in the standings will be determined by how fast the freshmen come on as BC lost a lot offensively and in goal, but will be ready come tournament time.
3. ND - NCAA team that doesn't lose a lot
4. UNH - NCAA team, minor losses, good goaltending.
5. PC - Won't score a lot but Gilles can carry this team
6. BU - Lots of questions on offense and D. Solid but maybe not spectacular goaltending.
7. UMA - Returning a lot - could be a dark horse for top 5.
8. MC - Could surprise with great goaltending
9. NU - Too much to replace on an already mediocre team
10. UVM - Need help in O, D, and goal.
11. Maine - They better have a really good recruiting class.

NCAA teams: UML, BC, ND, UNH
Regular Season Champ: UML
Tournament Champ: UNH (my "go out on a limb" prediction)
Player of the Year: Gaudreau (BC)
Rookie of the Year: Thatcher Demko (BC)
Best Goalie: Jon Gillies (PC)
Coach of the Year: Jerry York (BC)
Surprise team/Biggest Jump: UMass-Amherst

Re: Hockey East Summer Predictions

1 UNH
2 Lowell
3 Providence
4 BC
5 Notre Dame
6 Merrimack
7 BU
8 Amherst
9 Maine
10 Vermont
11 Northeastern

Tourney champ: Lowell
NCAA's: Lowell, UNH, BC, Providence
Rookie of year: Kelleher, UNH
Player of the year: Gaudreau, BC
Coach of year: Umile, UNH
Best goalie: Jon Gillies, PC

I know I'm a homer but I think that all of these things are entirely possible. Kelleher already has produced a point a game against NCAA talent (even though its exhibitions it's still impressive) and 3 of the UNH defensemen will be trying to prove something to pro teams and could possibly leave early making now their time to make an impression.

3. ND - NCAA team that doesn't lose a lot or score a lot but sure do put a lot of people to sleep:p

I can't Wait to see how Notre Dame does.

It kinda sucks that ND isn't playing games at every team's barn this year. Was looking forward to seeing them at Matthews. It will be interesting if their travel schedule grinds on them throughout the year.

Yeah it would be nice if you played every team once at home and once on the road each year

You are right. ND could certainly afford to travel to each team's rink. OTOH perhaps Maine or UVM can't or don't want to incur the cost.

Why is Notre Dame in HEA? Do we really need them? Isn't South Bend a midwestern city?

Come on now... geographically Notre Dame fits right in!

As far as Maine and UVM... they traveled to every other teams rink every year anyway in the old schedule (with the alternating 2 home / 1 away format)... so I don't think their cost would be much more than previous years... unless they do a lot more away OOC games.

I think it's more that it's hard to justify the expense of traveling all the way to/from Indiana to just play one game.

Re: Hockey East Summer Predictions

Well since we had the leverage ND should be paying for the trips... Amirite? Amirite? Amirite?

Stop talking logic. We're talking about Joey B. I'm surprised the rest of the schools aren't paying ND's travel expenses.
