Hockey East Semis: #2 UMass-Lowell vs. #8 Notre Dame

Re: Hockey East Semis: #2 UMass-Lowell vs. #8 Notre Dame

I didnt' watch any of the BC/ND series but after reading the recaps and box scores, it seems easy.
Stop Johns and the game is over. See how simple that is? :D

Truthfully, I'm expecting a full on battle waged here. Should be some great hockey.
Both goaltenders playing really well, both teams like to hit and play agressively.
I just worry about UML's scoring. ND shut down the best line in the country for the most part, that's a little daunting.
I suppose that's the one good thing about not having a single line for Lowell that really stands out. The Hawks have said it over and over again that they're proud of having 4 lines that are all productive, we'll find out how true that is this weekend.

Re: Hockey East Semis: #2 UMass-Lowell vs. #8 Notre Dame

that said, is JeffJacksonForPresident still on here and coming to Boston this weekend? I would love to see him and his wife again. they are a classy pair of hockey fans!
Oddly enough, I have a break in between classes today and just happened to start reading this thread...

And candycanes99 has my gender correct. I'm the female in my marrriage. :p Have we met? I don't know a whole lot of BU fans (or HE fans, really).

Alas, I am not coming to Boston. I was lamenting this morning that this will be the first conference championship weekend that ND is participating in that I will not be at. Instead, I'll be glued to the tube all weekend (I only hope my team is playing Saturday). I don't like that I cannot attend away games (except if/when we play former CCHA foes) because the travel is too timely and costly. Anytime ND has participated in the NCAA's I cancel class and spend the $$, though, so maybe we can meet up in 2 weeks...

I don't know that I've ever been referred to as "classy." Thanks!

Re: Hockey East Semis: #2 UMass-Lowell vs. #8 Notre Dame

Ok, back to topics actually related to the game at hand.

Lowell swept ND in the regular season including a shut out. But ND had several key players injured. ND is back to full strength now and also facing a strong Lowell team again. How does everyone see the match-up this time around and can Lowell handle ND's size? Can ND make any inroads against the best defensively ranked team in the country in Lowell?
Yay, real discussion. No doubt this will be the best defense since Notre Dame has seen since at least Minnesota (and I know, UML is #1 now). But they're no slouch on D either at #4 in the country. So really, I expect it all to fall apart and be a shootout. :D

If you added BC's top line on top of UML's current stat sheet, then it'd almost look like theirs... Just sayin :p

Notre Dame was able to shut down BC's offense, but still had to capitalize on defensive miscues and some Demko softies to pull away on Sunday. Friday will be a real battle. Can't wait.

I remember when we played BC and I added up the starting line ups offense. BC's first line had 10 more points than our whole team that night excluding the D as I said. Still staggering numbers.

oh dear.
"possibly the dirtiest player in the league" is not my words, but words of players on 2 different teams. you might want to watch something other than the puck
I've got news for you pal... any player who happens to continually make another team look silly on the scoreboard, that's usually the league's dirtiest player. It's the only way they can make that player look bad, words spoken by losers.

Johnny G.: 37 games played, 7 penalties, 14 penalty minutes. World's dirtiest player.

Vegas has the game basically at a pick'em according to my dad.

Well if we go by how the BC fans call both teams style of play this will be "the most boring game of hockey ever". I honestly think that this game's winner will take the title.

That being said, which ND fans are attending?

no, you are biased because you are watching your eagle puck carriers get clutched and grabbed and you are not noticing what your boys are doing to against the opposition. Kevin Hayes has no problem slowing guys down illegally whenever he wants to. Little Johnny is possibly the dirtiest player in the league right now

not be biased at all man... He is sorta right here there were 3 to 4 instances where Bob Ellis was in uproar about the way Hayes and Johnny were playing. For example there was a play were McGrath was coming down the side and passed up the puck and Johnny slashed the stick right out of his hands. I'd hate to see Johnny become like the aggressive maine players oof years past.

And throwing stats out don't help... I get he's the best player in the NCAA but don't baby him like that won't translate at the next level

I sadly won't be attending ... monty has to take my share of the drinking at the harp (good luck with that). What scares me with this game is which of both teams are going to show up. Lowell was absolutely on point when it came to this time last year... that being said, that was last year's team.

Well, if Johnny G's and Hayes's style upset Bob Ellis, I imagine he'll be jumping out a window when he sees ND's style this weekend. Hockey players playing hockey.... oh the horror.

JG = 7/14 Pen/Minutes
Hayes = 8/16 Pen/Minutes
Your team better run and hide when these 2 guys hit the ice.

Was at the Harp last year when you guys won, was a fun time. That bar is miserable though, maybe it's the "get off my lawn" in me.

Probably will be a pretty boring game but agreed, whoever wins this wins HE.

Dope.

Re: Hockey East Semis: #2 UMass-Lowell vs. #8 Notre Dame

I can't recall a game in HE with more grabbing, hooking, etc than what happened Sunday. If that was down from what occurred earlier in the season, Bennedetto & crew would have you guys playing a man down for 60 minutes.
not sure of the number of calls all year, doesn't necessarily speak to a style of play of clutching and grabbing....didn't see the entire year but I did witness three games this weekend....very conflicting style of playing the game....the Gaudreau kid was mauled the entire game 3....did you watch the game?

LOL, really guys, that sore? They called it like a playoff game, sure, but BC's been in plenty of them and they should be ready for them. Maybe I'm just fond of the pre-05 lockout style of hockey too much that what I consider clutch and grab, much less mauling is very different. Remember Derian Hatcher? Ah, the good old days.

This didn't seem to be a game featuring a bunch of thugs or a Devils style trap. It was college hockey. It was an intense game. Stop it with the exaggeration guys, it's embarrassing.

Of course, it helps that they hardly ever call embellishment. But yes, he's not even the dirtiest guy on his team. We've come a long way from the days of Nathan Gerbe's antics costing him the Hobey.

Probably will be a pretty boring game but agreed, whoever wins this wins HE.

If there's more than one goal, it will fulfill my excitement quota. See above.

Harp is not my favorite... but reliable trumps all else.

Do the ND fans have a pre-game spot? Saw a few walking around on the way to the Harp and wasn't too sure.
