Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

That is an amazing photo (and some wonderful quotes). The athletic body is truly a marvel....

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

I still say she'd have the best shot at playing with the boys. I'd love to see her get the chance, but it will never happen. She's already training for 2018, I can't imagine how she's going to get herself in better shape than she is now. It's kind of sad she never won the Patty Katz, but timing is everything.

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

This is another example of the media taking advantage of a female athlete for her good looks instead of her talent or intelligence. After the 14th or 15th viewing of the video I became offended by this shameless exploitation.

1. There are men in "The Body Issue."

2. She was talking about hockey in the video, and being an athlete rather than being pressured into trying to achieve a pre-defined look.

3. 14th or 15th viewing of the video? I can't tell if this whole comment is satirical or if you're serious.

First I was like ...

...but then I read this and laughed out loud because I'm pretty sure you were making a joke and it was a masterclass in subtlety.

Hmmm...yeah...I'm gonna pass on those. ;)
That comment suggests you miss the point of these pieces entirely. I'm pretty sure Hilary Knight didn't take these photos to be one of the ladies posted on your Facebook wall.

Right. The point was so obscure. Someone is missing a point alright.

Impressed she was not hiding her weight. More female athletes should give their true weights along with their heights. Noticed the small photo on the side listed her at 172, I say minimum

Muscle is heavier than fat. The girl is freaking ripped.

Token males. They serve no purpose. This is just ESPN's version of SI's swimsuit issue.

Right, because we all watched the video for her insight on hockey.

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

This is education and inspiration (not exploitation) for girls/women everywhere. You can weigh 175 and still be incredibly fit and healthy. Compare that to the majority of society (and women specifically) who are brainwashed by Cosmo into thinking that the ideal 5'10" woman should weigh 105 and have no muscle tone. Why should women aspire to have the muscle mass/tone of a veal?

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

probably the same reason so many of them change their hair color

if Team USA had won gold, she wouldn't have to sell her body for celebrity/fame, that is the price of losing. It is about time the US drop this charade that they and Canada are the top teams in women's hockey and admit they are #2. Canada is more than happy to go along with it, it's always better to underestimate yourself while your opponent over estimates themselves.

And stop whining about the lack of a pro career, your fate is in your own hands, and you blew it. Again. Canada knows it would be better for everyone if the US won, but they aren't going to hand you a gold medal.

That explains why Phelps and Fielder are the two most mentioned people of the issue. Just there to fill space between the girls, right?

As for the comparison to the swimsuit issue, the swimsuit issue is supermodels paid to look hot and wear clothes designed to make you look hot. If you look at the body issue and see any hint of sexuality then you really should get out more.

Re: Hilary Knight in ESPN's The Body Issue

Here's evidence, not proof, but it gives you the general idea.

But if you want actual "proof," sure, I can give you that. Here are the number of Google hits for:
ESPN "body issue" "[athlete]"

(M) Michael Phelps: 1,660,000
(F) Venus Williams: 1,340,000
(M) Marshawn Lynch: 544,000
(M) Prince Fielder: 219,000
(F) Megan Rapinoe: 165,000
(F) Jamie Anderson: 130,000
(M) Bernard Hopkins: 128,000
(M) Serge Ibaka: 102,000
(M) Omar Gonzalez: 96,300
(F) Amy Purdy: 76,300
(M) Nigel Sylvester: 74,900
(F) Coco Ho: 49,300
(F) Danyelle Wolf: 36,500
(M) Tomas Berdych: 34,700
(M) Larry Fitzgerald: 14,300
(F) Hilary Knight: 13,700
(F) Aja Evans: 7,660
(F) Angel McCoughtry: 3,980
(F) Ginger Huber: 2,120
(M) Jimmy Spithill: 1,540

Total views by sex:

Males: 2,873,200 (10 athletes) -- and 6 of the top 9
Females: 1,824,560 (10 athletes) -- and 4 of the bottom 5

(I left out Pastrana as that shoot was him and his wife)

So while Venus clearly trumped Lynch and Fielder, it's pretty clear that people aren't reading these magazines like 8 year old boys seeing boobs for the first time.

EDIT: Also, further evidence that it's not all about the girls, they put males on 4 of the 6 covers.
