HG-YBI!!! Part 217

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

I'm having one helluva day. I'm slightly less than pleased. Mix in my internet connection going out from time to time and something around here is on a fast track to destruction. I'm glad I can't watch the Tigers. Something would be broken, especially with Jeremy the Retard on the mound.

Sorry man, sounds like an incompetence fest on the part of everyone you dealt with today. Throw in a few tech issues, and something gets beat. I suppose it could be worse... it could be Monday.

I haven't tuned in for a Tigers game in around 2 months. From what I gather, that's probably not such a bad thing. Busy with work and getting shafted with job realignments and lack of corresponding income to match.

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

Today was one of those days where either everyone needed something right this minute or sooner, or nothing was going to go right at all, and having one helluva headache most of the afternoon and evening didn't help matters at all.

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

And I think it had something to do with someone's poker obsession.

There were some people who refused to post in HG.

To get those people back, since most enjoyed chatting with them, TRP was created.

HG slowly died, and TRP continued on.

The rep thread came about after RalphPa found the secrets to the rep system (when you switch, what maxrep was theoretically to be, etc) and everyone wanted to see how fast they could "max out" since rep was found out to be completely worthless other than to have fun with it.

Many post(ed) in all three, while others only posted in one of them.

And HG-YBI stands for "Hey Goldy, You Blew It" since one game Goldy Gopher handed out sandwiches to the wrong row in one of those game promotions that draw a winning row for free stuff.

And before you ask:

1. A new HG could only be started after the old one closed. A new TRP can be opened as soon as the old one hits 1000 posts, closed or not.

2. HG also had a number AND title add-on, until some people got mad about which Maroon'n'Gold (BC or MN) was the "true" team/whatever. TRP started with both, and now is just titles. There was a brief time that you could throw whatever number you wanted to into the mix.

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

Are you USCHO's official historian? Because you probably should be.

Naw, I just happened to be around at the time, and was the one who officially started TRP and made the TRP "rules" in the first place.;)

There are many others who know way more about how the board used to be (especially the easterners)

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

My take is people used to take things more seriously on the board.

Now that it's been around a longer period of time, there seems to be more widespread just garden variety *'ing with people and bits / inside jokes. Flame wars seemed to be far more commonplace 5 or more years ago than they are now - occasionally there is one, but it's generally just people piling onto some random poster nobody likes (hokeydad, etc).

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

I agree.

I think the board has cut down on a lot of the flame wars. You used to be able to count on a BC-BU flame war about every month or so (if not more frequently), and more often than not Maine and UNH got dragged into that as well. Michigan-Michigan State fired up every time they played, and two of the North Dakota-Minnesota-Wisconsin contingents were always at each other's throats. And in between Chuck Murray was writing stories, although that's closer to 10 years ago. :(

Basically, everybody that did this stuff either left the board or got banned.

Re: HG-YBI!!! Part 217

The threads involving MN were awful ten years ago. Rather than having a couple d-bags from other fanbases jumping in to take shots (like now), you'd have far more of them doing that, and they wouldn't be above bringing up old crap (like the Wooger "hat incident").

Plus while the "7" thing is just a bit now where pretty much everyone makes fun of UND fans for constantly harping on that number, back then it was something of a chorus out of them (7>3). And don't get me started on the inane crap from "Rick". That guy put the T in Tool.
